Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
I'm talking about the Steam version, or the version here, that includes Barbarian Invasions and Alexander rather than the Gold edition that only includes Barbarian Invasion. So, is it pre-patched completely? If not, does it include any of the earlier patches?
Thanks in advance!

It is pre-patched completely, but I believe that you can patch it backwards.

Is there any reason someone might want to patch backwards?

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
Well, you need to be careful when back patching. I once had a R:TW 1.5 install and applied the 1.2 patch and when I launched the game it decided that the DVD-ROM I had installed with was no longer the one to use for that install...
Th eonly reason to try that is to install a mod that needs an older version of R:TW.
Back to your original question. Most R:TW collections (R:TW Gold etc) will already be patched. However, some older versions may not be. The only way to be usre is to install the game and then look on the top right hand corenr of the Options Menu and that is the version that the game is.
Oh, welcome to TWC!

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
Thanks for the welcome. The question is kind of irrelevant now; I decided to install Rome Total War today but couldn't find my old Barbarian Invasion disc, so I thought I might just get it through Steam and be done with it (with the bonus of getting Alexander) - but now I found the disc.
I have a new question though, I read that you don't need to patch vanilla Rome to 1.5 because patching BI to 1.6 automatically does so, but does that apply to any version? Can I skip both 1.3 and 1.5 patches for Rome, install BI with patch 1.6, and that'll take Rome up to 1.5, or do I need Rome at 1.3 before installing BI?

If you have BI and Alexander installed, you're patched all the way.

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
But do I need to patch to 1.3 before I install BI?

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
If you bought all from Steam, it's all patched.
If you have the BI disc and a clean Rome install, put in the BI disc. It has the the Rome Patches to 1.3.

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
As IR pointed out BI takes you to 1.3 and Alex to 1.9.... people get confused because 1.9 is often called a 'patch' but it was never released as a separate download, only included in the Alexander expansion.. I believe the highest patch for RTW was 1.5..
My advice is to get Alexander. It greatly improves the Ai in both campaign and battle and makes the game much more stable..
And welcome to TWC...

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
I didn't buy them from Steam in the end because I found the BI disc (already had the Rome disc). It's fine though now, found my answer and installed BI already.
I have yet another question though! I was thinking of using Total Realism, but I'm a bit confused as to which version I need. What's the difference between 6 or 7(VII)? Is it essentially the same, except that the latter is mod-foldered and won't interfere with original RTW files? If so, I assume it's best I go for 7, right?
Also, do I need to install the Total Realism VII mods in order? VII: Iberian Conflic,VII Fate of Empires, then VII, or can I just install any/the latest?

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
It's been a while since I played RTR but RTR 6 was developed for R:TW patched to 1.2. RTR Platinum was RTR 6 ported to run on R:TW BI.
RTR VII is 'the next generation' from the RTR team. It was relased first as RTR VII TIC (a sub mod) simply to deliver something to the public as the team as it was then was losing interest. FoE then came next.
I#m fairly sure that RTR VII TIC and FoE were both 'mod foldered' and I presume that is also true of RTR VII itself. However, I've not been active in the development team since prior to FoE
RTR specific questions should be raised in thier part of the forum as they are best placed to answer any questions. Try the forum: here.

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
Foe and TiC are not fully mod foldered, check the release notes for what is not. I guess it might be the intro movies.. RTR VII is fully mod foldered..

Okay, more geneal mod question here - if you have a couple of mod-foldered mods, how do you enable/disable them? Just put them in and out of a certain folder?

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
Argh... okay. I thought installing BI was supposed to automatically update vanilla RTW to 1.5, but when I check in the options screen still says 1.3. BI works fine, but what's going on?

Try this. http://www.gamefront.com/files/44694...ion_v1_6_Patch
My BI disc only goes to RTW 1.3 and BI 1.4.

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
Right. In the options I have RTW at 1.3 and BI at 1.4. I can't install BI patch 1.6 because it says something along the lines of 'this patch can only upgrade from 1.3 to 1.5'. I just don't get it...

Re: Is the Rome: Total War Collection pre-patched?
1.3 will upgrade to 1.5. Nothing wrong here. It's RTW's patch.
After installing this, the next screen should be for updating BI from 1.4 to 1.6.
