    Default Late macedonian army

Greetings, friends. First of all I would like to thank you for your magnificent work. EB was my first mod and I have been enjoying it since the beta versions.
There is something that I would like to ask you. I have been trying to find info on macedonian armies after Alexander. The starting pezhetairoi and argyraspides seem very logical to me but what confuses me are the late pezhetairoi.
From what I have seen and read even in the later years the phalanx was still mainly using the linothorax and there was an elite regiment. The peltastai which included the even more elite agema. I am by no means trying to bash the mod. I love it. I am simply trying to figure this out and would be grateful if someone from the team could explain this. I am certain that you have access to sources that I do not, so could you please shed some light on this?!?

Look not above, there is no answer there; Pray not, for no one listens to your prayer; Near is as near to God as any Far, And Here is just the same deceit as There.

And do you think that unto such as you; A maggot-minded, starved, fanatic crew: God gave the secret, and denied it me?-- Well, well, what matters it! Believe that, too.

"Did God set grapes a-growing, do you think, And at the same time make it sin to drink? Give thanks to Him who foreordained it thus-- Surely He loves to hear the glasses clink!" Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

That is the one I have and the one that mentions peltastai and the agema.
BTW that is a new book so the EB team certainly didn't base the roster on it.

AFAIK they are a bit of a "what if" unit, maybe based on some experimental unit or plans that weren't carried out or something like that. Maybe you should ask this question in the "Vestigia Vestutatis" sub-forum, there are many warfare nuts around there who might know about the finer details or at least point you to the right sources.

From what I know the phalanx DID become heavier and I can accept having them all with chainmail since the engine does not allow variety. Basically what I think is missing is the Agema.

For me personally, there's two vaguely historical ways of looking at the Macedonian Reformed Phalanx.

One is to treat it as an elite unit of a large phalanx (e.g. 8-12 units), a replacement for the Argyraspides, and place one on the right hand edge of a long line of Pezhetairoi and/or Phalangitai Deuteroi.

The second is to make it the standard unit of a high-quality, but small, phalanx (e.g. 4-6 units).
