    Default Just a Thought

Seeing as how America is involved in so many disagreements with other nations right now, I have been thinking about what we can do to improve our relations with such nations? Then this thought popped into my head. Why doesn't Bush invite leaders that we don't like down to his ranch in Texas to try and hammer things out? It can't hurt the situation, can it?

Have you seen how people "hammer things out" here? More than likely it would drive our nations farther apart.

Actually, our strong ties with Saudi Arabia were cemented when the crown prince came to visit Crawford shortly after Bush was inaugurated. If it worked with one set of Arab leaders, why can't it work with another.

Not to mention the assistance we gave their intelligence agency in tracking down al-qaeda members and the like who are interested in overthrowing the regime. Maybe if we did this with more countries, we could build more positive relationships.

Well we could become another third world nation, go back to our glories days as an isolated nation or we could just kick there ass in an war and declare them to be under our control. Sure there are other ways but hey this is what popped into my head. Perhaps if I was listing to a more careful song I could of thought of other options.. uargh screw it let the bodies hit the floor! On a more serious note, it's an obvious and practical idea. It would at least show that we are willing to talk.

If I do remember correctly, I read in "The One Percent Doctrine" that Bush addressed practically none of the Saudis' concerns, yet the crown prince still came away satisfied with Bush as a person. Sounds like a win-win for America. We should at least try to duplicate this with other nations.

Hahahhahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahah! An excellent idea! As soon as he is feeling up to it put Castro on a plane, and have a nice chat. Bush lifts sanctions, Castro allows freer markets! What could go wrong?

I can't in all honesty see any of the leaders of the nations US is arguing with being stupid enough to go anywhere near the US. This is the country that illegally holds people in detention without trial (in guantanamo bay (sp)), illegally transports captives around the world to countries where they can be tortured and has a long record of 'destabilising' countries they don't like.

In those circumstances I don't think any of the leaders would want to put themselves in the control of the US, they'd probably reckon they'd end up a permanent 'guest'.

Now, if Bush offered to go visit them, that would be interesting....

And the good relations with Saudi Arabia are a result of a bit of financial and business ties between the bushes and the royal family that began long before the election of Bush 2.0...

A stable world would be a good thing for the entire world. The only thing is I really do think that the doves would be able to influence policy in that direction if it wasn't for the existance of nations like Iran where logic and common sense don't come into the picture.

Can you reason with a nation that will crush a 7 year old childs arm? That want to wipe millions of the face of the earth, and use a militia to destabilise a region and consequently destroy a fellow arab region just to further there own ends and remove the focus from them.

We should send them to go duck hunting with Dick Cheney, then we wouldn't have to worry about foreign leaders.

You're right about Iran. That nation presents a major thorn in our side. Perhaps we should try to at least reason with them though before we inevitably go in their and open up an American can of whoop ass upon their sorry souls.

Your assuming these people are capable of reason.

If the world was ran by secular governments then we would stand a chance because at least a banana republic dictator is not totally blinded by ideological hatred and religous idealsim but is just a bit of a barstard, and generally the populations are open to reason and outside influence. The problems there are corruption brought about by massive amounts of resources compounded by infrastructure, health, environmental and youth problems (most being fledgling countries still in development that is hindered by above problems but there are success stories).

Irans people are probably from what I understand quite supportive of the regime and the shariah law that enforces a lot of the punishments and influences the government. So if they live in self imposed misery and would fight the change then what do you do?

Yep, just let the world leaders get together for a bit and get drunk together. It could solve some problems. I'm serious, getting raucously drunk with people creates an odd sort of bond. :tacticalw The only trouble I see is that radical muslims aren't allowed to drink alcohol...

On a more serious note, didn't we see that in the cold war, personal negotiations between the leaders of the US and the USSR improved the relationships between the two superpowers?

Knowing Bush, he would most likely invite Ahmadinijad over for a nice cold beer and a bacon sandwich.....

The problem with that is that when we invite people over, we have to expect media coverage, and protestors to mess stuff up...

Hmm. Bush, diplomacy... Riight. Even if we assume that this was fixing rift withing west (inviting Chirac etc) it would most likely fail.

Bush administration appears unable to comprehend difference between "diplomacy" and "dictate". Ok, lately they have made some attempts to amend the simply disastrous approach of the past but you can't just say "hey, let's be mates again!" and expect everything to be just fine again.

I feel lots of sympathy for poor soul who has to pick up the mess Bush leaves behind since it takes a lot more work to build up good relations then it takes to tear them down.
