Well I have tried tuning my settings down but that didn't change anything... that's sad , I crave killing some orcs

If it happens in every battle, it really looks like some issue related to video settings. I'd suggest to try to enable/disable the widescreen option, verify that shaders are enabled, and verify that screen resolution is the same than the resolution of your display.
If it does not work, try to reset all settings to default, for example by deleting the preferences.txt file placed in the lotrtw folder:
    Rome - Total War\alexander\lotrtw\preferences\preferences.txt

Or copy the preferences.txt file from another rtw installation or mod that is working right for you.

Well I tried those tips and none of them are working. I unistalled rome total war (Alexander and BI included) and nothing has changed. Also, once I reinstall everything, all my saved games are still here even if i made sure that any files related to RTW, expansions and any other mods are deleted. Is there any way to uninstall everything ? Because im starting to think that there is maybe a corrupt file somewhere.

Its pretty frustrating because this mod was my favorite of all time for RTW and now since 3.0 it crashes at every battle. It was the most stable mod ever before all those problems . If anyone has any other tips, it will be a pleasure to try them.

Yea, if saved games are still there after reinstalling probably things have been missed. If you're to the point of complete uninstalls try this:
    1. Uninstall RTW and expansions
    2. Delete the RTW root folder (either "Rome Total War" or "The Creative Assembly" or something of that nature in your Program Files folder
    3. Empty trash/recycle bin
    4. Restart your computer
    5. Reinstall RTW + Expansions, LotRTW, then Patch 3.02
    6. Hopefully then play!

Damn it, i unistalled ONCE AGAIN everything , made sure ( and i mean ABSOLUTLY sure) that nothing was left from my last istallation of RTW with ALX and BI , restarted 3 times my computer just to make sure, and again my saved games were there and the same f*&??%ing CTD crash was there. I got desperate and bought the total collection on DVD from amazon. My game was something i downloaded free from torrent so i think maybe buying the real thing will probably help. It's funny cause on my older laptop on which i used the same torrent, everything worked perfectly.

The other mod i played ( SPQR mod ) also ran without any problem on my older laptop and new desktop so i guess i did something wrong or there is a corrupt file preventing me from playing this wonderful LOTRTW mod. Now with a real copy , this problem won't happen again. Thank you guys for any tip you provided me. For now i will enjoy SPQR and destroy the greek faction until I can defend Gondor once again from Sauron's minions

Well I'm stumped... You did make a point to delete the RTW root folder before re-installing right?
I wonder, is SPQR completely mod-foldered? If it isn't and you have both mods installed at the same time, that could cause problems although it wouldn't keep the save games.

Got a couple of minor bugs I think.
    1. Looks like the Barad Dur tower has replaced any other large+ settlements in the distance on battle map (I've noticed specificailly that Minas Tirith and Dol Guldur seem to have been replaced).

    2. Had a non-CTD bug generate while trying to load a captured Southron settlement that had recently built elvish walls.

So, I installed Lotr-Tw 2.0, 3.0 and the patch 3.02, but everytime I try to play with Galadhrim, Noldor and Silvan Elves, I get a CTD, no error, just the common one RTW-ALX has stopped working.

Edit : Nevermind, fixed it !

when you play as Gondor, it is often such a mistake.

most often when the fighting is in Osgiliath

Yep, i made sure to delete the Rtw root folder. Maybe it could be SPQR, the creator of the mod said it coulld not work if there is another mod installed but this mod is attached to RTW , not Alexander. Also my older laptop had those two mods installed simultaneously and both worked like a charm. I'll try one last time to delete everything, install LOTRW only and then i will see if that could be it although i doubt that it could be the problem. Thanks for the replies BTW ! But there is still those saved games that reappear and its bugging me a little...

Well good luck! Maybe run a search of your computer for those saved games?

You know what, I did some testing for my own problems, and i have discovered that I have the same problem. I thaught mine was related to gondor buildings but that is not the case, because CTD happens only when trolls are involved even on a day battle. I hope someone will answer us about this broblem

Hi guys it's me again ( I hope im not too annoying ) , after a few days of testing I have discovered that my CTD during battles happened every time while I play in Minas Thirith or Osgiliath ( although it crashes less often ) so i don't know if anyone encoutered this problem before. I checked the previous pages to see if there was a solution out there but it doesn't semm like it . So if anyone has any answers, im anxious to reviem them ! Maybe gondor buildings gives some problem to my computer !? Again sorry for my english , I speak French ( Beautifull language btw )

There is a bug in the way torches are attached to troll bones that cause crashes at night battles. However, torches sometimes appear at day battles near sunrise or sunset.
I suggest to test custom battles with trolls, at "midday" day time, to verify that torches are not causing your crashes.
If there are crashes at midday, then it should be something related to graphical settings, because I can confirm that trolls work for me with much lower PC specs.

Let me know if you discover something else. I'll be around to try to answer.

In did some testing and my problem is really related with trolls. I did some costum battles with only trolls and it worked fine, but as soon I include them in a bigger army with battalions of orcs, it crashes. In fact, the first time it works, but if I do a second battle then it crashes.

I deleted the prefecrence text, changed the resolution of my screen , installed RTW in an another folder than programm files. I even bought a DVD of RTW + AlX from amazon (because i had a pirated version of RTW before) and the same problem occured . It was working great on my old computer but with my new high end rig, there is nothing to do.

    Here's my Specs : Amd quadcore Fx-4300 4.2 ghz, Ati radeon 5870 1gb, 8 gb of ram

If it worked better in your old pc, maybe it is related to the virtual storage of new windows versions. Take a look here:

This issue cause crashes at start of campaign for many people. If the campaign works for you, there are few hopes that it solves this problem with trolls, but it seems the only remaining thing that you have not tested...

Is there a way in the preference text to prevent mordor and the goblins to recruit trolls, because it may be the only viable solution instead of auto-resolve any army with trolls ? Thanks for the help anyway Bardo, not much we can do Lol.
