    Default Map/Region problem...

Hello peeps, I've been modding RTW for a while now, just basic .txt file editing, but now I have found map editing so I have two questions. Well, one is a question, the other is a problem.

1)I've just completed, well nearly, Monkwarrior's create small map from cut of campaign map tutorial. I've got to the part about moving the characters. I've got the -show_err in the shortcut so I start RTW, I go to the provincial campaign and click on my campaign. I select the faction I want to play as.

Now I am looking for an error, an error that tells me that "faction" general is in the wrong place. But instead of that message I get...

    Code:
    Generic Error:

REGION_DB::default faction for region(0) isn't present in the descr_strat.txt file.
I've gone through my descr_strat file but can't find a settlement error. Does anybody know what may be causing this error?

    2) I know there is a land=water ratio that means you can't have too much water, but is there a too much land problem? e.g I create a map entirely of land, would it CTD?

    1. think your error message means you need to change descr_regions.txt - not strat.
    Britannia_Inferior
    Eburacum
    britons
    Brigantes
    232 41 198
    slaves, lead, dogs, pigs
    5
    5
the third line down (britons in example) is default faction for region - if you don't have that faction in descr_strat you should change it to one that is in strat.
I also change the default rebel (in italics) to one that is a sub faction of factions that exist in descr_strat - see descr_rebel_factions.txt for relationships - I'm not 100% sure thats necessary though.

If map was loading before you moved generals without that error message then you've done somthing to descr_strat formatting thats stopping it reading down as far as 'missing' faction.

    2. you can have an all land map up to maximum possible size (1021 x 1021 heights I think) with no problems, (except remembering not to have port buildings in descr_strat!).

This could also indicate that you have a faction listed in descr_regions that you don't have in the strat file. I found that when eliminating factions for my unified rome mod that all references to them in descr_regions had to be removed. Or you just need to add that faction to your strat file.

Thanks guys, I think it worked, but now I have another error, not the one that I want.

    Code:
could not create settlement at script line 78 in descr_strat.txt.
Now I've looked through descr_strat and there is no settlement at line 78, any ideas?

Could you reply and paste in beginning section of descr_strat with line 78 in bold?

Can not create settlement errors can arise from colour in descr_regions.txt not being the right RGB value to match map_regions.tga, mispelling of region name in descr_strat or other text files - including mis-use of upper / lower case letters - that has to be same throughout. Also possibly using city name in descr_strat instead of region name. (Region name is first one in descr_regions).
Also check your map_regions.tga has just one, 1 pixel black spot for city, black should be RGB 0, 0, 0.

Not sure why line reference is not tying up though - if you can post start of file I might be of more help - you never did say, did you have map loading at all before you moved characters?
