Re: Loans
I wouldn't use that.
1 reason is that the AI could use this money.
And the only reason I use it is if I'm less than 300 gold from building something.

Re: Loans
I think as long as you're RPing that's your decision. If you have financial problems with one of the more challenging factions (I know I do!) then that might be something that helps you get the campaign off the ground. I had the same thought a while ago but I've taken a vacation from EB due to RL.

Re: Loans
Roleplaying wise - look at the situation from the other faction's point of view. Why would another faction want to give you money? What do they get out of it? How do they know you'll pay it back? Why would they trust you? Would you trust them if they asked you for money?
If money is the other faction's only interest in helping you, then, because they have little reason to trust you, they would likely charge an extortionate rate of interest, like 40% per year.
E.g. they lend you 40,000 mnai, but you have to agree to pay them a regular tribute of 4,000 mnai a turn for 100 turns. So 25 years later, you will have paid them 400,000 mnai for lending you 40,000 in the first place.
The only reason for another faction to give you a better deal by charging you a lower rate of interest is if you are fighting their enemies, especially enemies that have invaded their lands.

Re: Loans
Well, he wouldn't borrow money from his rivals. I have allies in every game and it makes sense to financially support the faction who does most of the fighting against a common foe (Delian League?). He could also RP some merchant princes or officials (Alexander kept most of the bureaucrats in Babylon, many of them quite influental). There is also a matter of being supported by pirates (Mithridates of Pontos).

Re: Loans
That's very true, and yes I am playing Pontos and as usual I have early money problems with them until I start taking a good amount of provinces.
