As long as no one attacks it from behind,yes.Your troops do tire out fast though hence i prefer a direct charge,As the roman troops are much better than pretty much everyone else on the battle field.In city battles they are excellent.

It is very useful when under missile fire.
However it is completely useless if you are fighting in melee
In the chaos of battle, when the ground beneath your feet is a slurry of blood, puke, piss and the entrails of friends and enemies alike, it's easy to turn to the gods for salvation. But it's soldiers who do the fighting, and soldiers who do the dying, and the gods never get their feet wet.

and if you are facing any artillery, forget it. A direct hit from heavy onager fire shot can, on normal or small size, wipe out almost whole cohort in testudo due to tight packing of soldiers.

great way to box in horse archers after their heavy cav has been cleared out. Good for marching up to city walls lined with archers.
