I have one question? It is in the battle to create a formation - minor third? Tj. pikaníři square in the middle and sides of the musketeers.
If you are playing a faction that in this war commonly used a certain tactical formation, with the right mix of units you will get that formation. You could try some custom battles to see what types of units to take into battle in order to get a certain type of formation.
Congrats I must say, I launched it, and seems very full, with cinematics (cant understand german), unit names, scripts and all.
However I did not go farther than 5 turns. My problem - I guess not a problem for everyone - is the map. Great textures work, minor cities and all, but ...
Too large IMO . And since the first turns I got harassed with new traits and events, even with bremen. Gave me a headache.
The thing is, that's too complex for my little and busy brain, however, a submod with a more little map would make my hapiness.
The map is really daunting at first, especially as a larger faction, with cities and regions all spread out, and all the cinematics and traits and everything can be confusing, but once you get into it a bit more, you get used to it.
or you can do what i do and concentrate so hard on the battle lines you forget all about our other cites ^^ ... seriously took me 20 minutes to find my capital again....
but maybe you have a better memory than me![]()
I think the map is the is how should be, is hard to play yes but is the most historical map i've seen in a mod and thats a great job i have to say the only problems are the randoms crashes and some bugs, but the mod has a big potential . My congratulations to the modders for the job done and for choose this important and bloody war, the wwII in the XVIIth.
the big map is THE important part of the mod to give player a complete new challenge, to control the deep space with armies, spies and watch towers, not to know where who is coming. in CA vanilla games the strategic map is so tiny, that there is nearly no strategic challenge. control of space is a important part of wars to hold initiative of war.
of course, the challenge is hard but only the hard ones get into garden![]()

Very true. This is the first mod that includes the towns where I live and have lived, which was brilliant enoughOne gets used to the map, even though I always need a few minutes to find Berlin again
I was much more bothered by the financial issues

"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."
Pliny the Elder, Naturalis Historia, 7, 112
Yeah, the map is stunning, no question. If it makes things a bit more complicated, it's a natural part of lifeNo pain no gain. E.g. if you get promoted and paid more, you'll have to work longer hours usually and more responsibility.
Having concentrated on the magnificent map and campaign, I would've liked it if the modding team had borrowed more from other mods for the unit graphics- e.g. from AD's English Civil War mod and the new Fire and Sword 2 mod. Or Pappenheim cuirassiers could've been the look for all early-mid cuirassiers, for example.
There's the issue of permissions, but assuming that's greenlit, nothing stopping one from making a submod including them! Personally I've been impressed by Call of Warhammer's use of the cradle'd supporting stick to hold up the long guns, as was done in this period.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Good example Maximicus. I didn't initially think of CoW because the character of the Empire is aprox 100 years earlier to this time frame. But there was a stagnation in military technology from mid 16th century to the 1620s so CoW could be helpful too.
Hi Guys.
My critic is follow:
CAI is too passive. I played as dutch, and 2 years long but NO ONE attack me! I am at war against Spain and Catolic Leaque...
Most fortress is empty. Cities have a very few garrisons. maybe 1-2 units.
Most of the factions is in bankrupt ! They cant build army, therefore do not occupy cities !
I hope this will change as time goes by?

What a mess. The map is unclear and ridiculously fragmented, even for the period. The CAI won't attack. There are dreadful fudges - a whole valley full of Diplomats, for example right in the Alps. At least it makes achieving certain Missions possible since the map movement is so slow some of the Diplomatic missions could never be made in the timescale given. You donlt need to, of course - you will find the suitable Diplomat in this strange valley enclave. Then there is the arrival of the Turks en masse who simply stay in roughly the same little bit with a dozen or more full stacks. Worst of all - as the French, I beat the Spanish. I took every fort/city, every main stronghold - and, on the very last, after an epic struggle, took Antwerp, their last remaining major city. They promptly spawned at least 20 full stacks as 'People In Flight' making them stronger than ever before. Pretty poor stuff this. I shall be deleting it.
wise step. 1648 is for advanced TW player, not for noobs. Maybe in 4-5 years you could be able to master the challenge of this mod, after learn to read and some lessons in good behaviour. bye.
-------
carl taxman is no longer part of mod, we used it in 1648 v.1.0, but it added almost 3 minutes to the AI's turn.

So much for a criticism. There's no point in huffing and puffing at me - and accusing me of bad behaviour - for pointing out the shortcomings of your mod. If you don't like such comments, don't invite them. Believe me, this is my best behaviour. As regards your fragmented map, I am not talking about the number of factions or the placements - I am talking about the cities/fortresses stuck behind impassable terrain, so that they can neither be conquered nor add to gameplay. There are too many such fudges in this - I note you have not tried to defend the Diplomat or Turkish enclaves - and the fact that you admit neither France nor Spain can be defeated is astonishingly revealed as yet another. What is the point of doing that? I played as Sweden, too and discovered that, out of the blue, a peace was imposed on me simply because of some historical fudge you wanted to force. I do not prefer vanilla games, but neither am I overwhelmed by someone's desire to try and forcefeed me a particular view of history. If I want the Thirty Years War as if happened, I will read a book. This is a monumental work of technical wizardry spoiled by blinkered thinking. Now, this 'noob' will go back to play some Darthmod for the good of his sanity ...

I'm curious if the mod would benefit from Carl the Taxman...
