Ok RTW multiplayer...

I have come to think recently that the best way for me to enjoy RTW is through multiplayer. The battles needless to say are far more interesting, the whole concept of a human opponent makes you feel more like a general, but there's things about the RTW mp experience I don't like. For example, people who's armies are compromise of only Praetorian Cavalry and Urbans. I've tried to counter this by hosting games with a lower budget for your armies (5000-10000 denariis about) but people still find a way to spam a particular unit, the only way to completely get rid of the problem is make the budget sooo low that you couldn't afford Urbans more than once or twice, but then that restricts the freedom of choice greatly, I feel like I'm at a loss here, I love RTW mp but I'm a little frustrated right now. I'm curious, do you guys play mp and if you do what are your experiences like? How do you fight?

i agree with what you said Legione... but i think one tactic generals are easier to defeat if you played with them more then once.
i always try to prepare my army for everything, so i have mix of units and i usually dont play defencive so the opponent has to accept my stile of playing wile i attack him.
... also i dont like playing as Romans as they are too strong and have too much advatages ower other factions. i only wish units were more balanced so also germans and others beside cartage and some other factions had some chances against them... i dont like playing with units that have such advantage ower others - there is no need for a good stratagy then and i think it ruens game.

I know exactly what you mean. There are more or less common rules though, when playing with more experienced people. Something like 10 to 12.5 k denari, no elephants, no arty, 6 of unit type max.

Personally I prefer a 10 k game , no eles, no arty not more then 6 of any unit type , unless non missile inf. Avoid bridge battles, hosts that do not chat and explain the rules prior to the game and high denari games, would be my advice.


my biggest gripe is that the community in the gamespy lobby is .... lacking. I find it hard to find a good opponent & sport who enjoys like me the sight of an epic battle. And to even see the chat babble by all these 12 year olds on a sugar high is hurting my eyes.
