    sorry wrong pick

    http://www.dustinhome.no/product/501...-630w-modular/
    this is the correct one.

this one would fit aswell as it is gold certified (orginal manufacturer is FSP, a very good one aswell):
    http://www.dustinhome.no/product/501...-480w-modular/

Cheap? At least "Corsair AX and HX models are also made by Seasonic" , aswell as the "Be Quiet Dark Power pro series".
The "Be Quiet pure power series" above is made by HEC also a very good manufacturer of PSU

But after seeing this thread was interested in sending it back and building my own PC.

Comparing prices from the first page on this thread to UK prices is crazy. The ASUS GeForce GTX 760is $260, same card here is around Ł230, which is about 348 dollars. Crazy crazy price difference.

I can afford the US prices, not the UK ones...
have fun with it, expect full medium to high settings.

    Hi there!
I am considering buying a laptop and have a couple of questions which I hope someone can be kind enough to answer:

    1. If I hook a 17.3" laptop to my old PC 24" monitor when I'm at home, how much would the performance suffer?

    2. What is your opinion and/or recommendations about the following laptop spec:

    Acer Aspire V3 772G 747A8G1TMAM 16GB, GTX 760M 2GB:

Processor: Quadcore 4th Gen Intel Core i7 4702MQ (2,2 GHz Max Turbo Speed 3,2 Ghz Chache L3 - 6 MB)
Display: 17.3" Full HD 1920x1080 resolution Acer LED-backlit TFT LCD
    Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz (up to 32GB 1600Mhz)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M with 2GB GDDR5 own memory
Hard disk: 1000GB 5400rpm + possibility for a second disk or standard form factor 2.5 SSD (ask for offer of SSD) + mSATA slot

    Question 1 no performance impact!

And now for all as this seems to become a FAQ: the resolution is making the pace not the screen size.

Question 2: this rig is oversized in two aspects (ram and cpu) check out my linked one newegg.com just few posts ago should be better performance / price.

Thanks for the insightful reply! I realize my questions are perhaps not that well-thought.
I tried searching for similar deals but currently my local stores don't have any better price:quality laptops as this one.
Regarding the RAM and CPU, I think the extra memory will help me when I work with several graphic editors and arch. design programs. Except for the extra price, are there any other downsides? (maybe overheating, etc?)
Additionally, should I expect running Rome II on max settings?

I've noticed lots of people who've posted on this thread have 16gb or even 32gb of RAM on their rigs.
From what i've read, anything above 8gb for gaming is a waste and it is only really worth it if you do video rendering or something similar.

    I have this RAM currently - G.Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RpjawsX

Would there be any point in me getting more for Rome 2 or a higher frequency?

Only if you have got only one stick, in that case buying another one (the same) will allow you to run them in dual channel, otherwise 8gb is plenty.

Yeah, I think you can do that, if you intend to melt your laptop, you can go ahead

OC generates much more heat, laptops just can't handle that, sorry.

Edit: maybe with a cooling pad you could manage to get some mild oc without getting insane temperatures, but I doubt it would be worth the effort. The GPU would probably oc with the most common gpu oc tools, but I don't know about the CPU, usually you oc that in the bios.

A non OC'd laptop still puts off hella heat, I can't imagine how a "significant" overclock on a laptop would fair against overheating the internal components.

While I have been able to play Shogun II with few problems, it is time for an upgrade. my mobo is a 3.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Extreme Q6850, with 4.0 Ram and a NVIDIA 8800GT. How do I tell what graphics card I can upgrade to without replacing the motherboard? At this point I prefer to only update the card.

any geforce will fit in your old mainboard and I would not suggest to upgrade anything else at the moment and wait for 2014 (new CPU gen and DDR4 RAM). beware that a high end graphics will not help to iron out fps drops at close up battles. So I would suggest you a GTX 760 that is more than enough to handle Total War.

Al qamar the one you picked is too expensive I need money in that bank still for other things if I get that one you suggested I won't have any left.

My budget is around Ł700 roughly
Well you said 800 max that's what I did. But I will look into this again ok?

Hadro we had a better rig already for him as the one of the OP.

Similar laptops, although the one on NewEgg does not seem to be receiving great reviews. I think I'll get the MSI GT60 instead of the GT70.
The gt70 got mostly negative reviews because people discredit windows 8 as most of all do not like to learn how to use it properly without the need of bugging the mouse around into screen edges.

Those negative reviews lack of responsibility as this is an osi layer 8 issue not bad hardware.

Fair enough. If I were you Samuel Pigeon, I would listen to alQamar. He is the expert of this thread. Take his advice.

If I went with a GTX 6 series that would play rome as well right? I am inclined to go cheaper now for the card and do a fuller upgrade in a year or two. I am also curious as to why Red River thinks over 560 would be too much.

What exactly is your question? did you want advice on parts?

If you leave your budget, what you plan to use the computer for, and any components you already own, then I will help.
