I've been looking around for a better graphics card for Rome II, and I just can't seem to find one. I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series card that isn't up to scratch, and I'd love to be able to play Rome II with unit, building and perhaps environment settings on High or Ultra, although I don't really care about shadows, grass, sky etc (which I'll put on low or off) or advanced graphics options such as Vsync etc.

    My current PC stats are:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz (4 Core 64 Bit)
    8.00 GB of RAM
725GB Free (924GB Total) Hard Disk

    My other Graphic Card stats:

Display adapter type ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series

Total available graphics memory 4840 MB

    Dedicated graphics memory 1024 MB

    Dedicated system memory 0 MB

    Shared system memory 3816 MB

    Display adapter driver version 8.951.0.0

    Primary monitor resolution 1920x1080

    DirectX version DirectX 10

Does anyone here have any suggestions on a better card, please? Thank you.

Splenyi I saw you have the Z87 Gryphon MOBO from ASUS. Is that the micro ATX board? I just purchased it after my Gigabyte board was DOA <--- Combo deal with the i5 4670k cpu...

Yeah, but the bent pins werent the issue, those bent after I determined the mobo was defective. I sent it to Gigabyte to take a look at it, as long as the pins arent broken they can usually repair it free of charge under the warranty. But I am waiting for them to determine the real issue with why that mobo never posted. In the meantime I just purchased an ASUS Z87 uATX LGA 1150 mobo. Not quite sure what limitations may occur between a micro board, like CPU cooler, RAM or GPU not fitting

    Hi Guys,

Been following this thread for a few weeks now, planning a new PC build for Rome 2.
Just wondering what my performance would be like with the following components:

    MSI z87-45 Motherboard

    Intel i5-4670k (overclocked to 4.3ghz)

MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 (oc.d to 1220)

Just wondering if its worth just getting the 770 or waiting for a 780. I'm just gaming in 1080p but would like to have everything turned up. And also, do you think 60fps in RTS is necessary??

I can run Shogun 2 on very high settings, it works pretty fine. I also run Battlefield 3 on high settings.

Well I do get a tiny bit lag on high settings if there is a lot of units. But it doesn't stop me from playing it functionally. That is ultra on Shogun I think. So I imagine I can play Rome 2 easily enough.

Hi Keithzor high or ultra settings is a relatively measure.
To help you, you need to give me more detailed information about your ram and power supply please perhaps make several screenshot with snipping tool of win7 and upload here. I was not asking for the amount but type speed and ram vendor

    Here's my specs

    MOBO: sabertooth 990fx

Processor: AMD phenom ii x6 black edition

    GPU: GeForce GTX 580

    Ram: Corsair dominator 8gb

Power Supply: Corsair Professional Series HX1000

My question was if I wanted to upgrade my graphics card what would be the biggest leap forward without breaking my wallet? (Willing to spend $400-500)

You'll definitely get a bigger improvement by upgrading to a new Haswell cpu and mobo, but if its the graphics card you want to upgrade, in that price range the GTX 770 is the best choice.

You could wait longer and see what AMD will release next though, because their next cards will be a good deal better. That might be a few months though, but your 580 is still very well suited for TW.

I'd still recommend upgrading your mobo and cpu though.

Any recommendations for mobo and cpu?

Your biggest leap forward will probably be to move to a Haswell (Z87) build, in which case I would recommend any of ASUS's mobos and a 4670k, or keep your 990fx and buy an 8350, since we know that Rome II is going to need processor power.

I can second splenyi and raimeken. Your gpu is not throttling tw much and full ultra
    Settings should be easy.
BUT we need to make a benchmark before we suggest generic upgrades.

As I posted earlier the "problem" is your cpu. Six cores but games do not support it.
Secondly the fastest amd cpu oc to freaky 4.8 GHz is still slower than a 3.8 sandy bridge or Ivy Bridge and Haswell.

Please run shogun 2 CPU benchmark.
Before that go to the shogun 2 directory (steam > steamapps common > shogun2 > benchmark) and change the resolution in the preferences.script.( dx9 cpu).txt to 1920x1080. Save then run it please Then I am able to tell you a concrete advantage and how much this upgrade to Haswell would deal you.

    Thanks for your efforts.

I'm actually not too sure we need a benchmark. While I do understand testing at 1080p would be more in line with reality, the fact of the matter is that the 8350 does very poorly with single threaded applications. With just the stock CPU benchmark, 8350s reach maybe 27-29 fps at 4.8. My 4670k at 4.4 gets 34 fps, and 30.6 fps on the 1080p CPU test. I'd say, if money is not a factor, switch to the Z87 platform. And while the 8350 may do poorly in S2, we don't know the situation with Rome II yet and it will play everything else just fine.

If someone with an 8350 has this game, can you please run alQamar's benchmark to compare to my OC'ed 4670k. Thanks
