Why not go 120GB? They are not that expensive anymore, CPUs and GPUs cost often way more. Think of mods and addons for Rome 2 and plan with a little reserve.

I bought nearly a whole new computer for Rome II and of course I bought a Samsung SSD 840 Basic 250GB for 149€, its a difference between day and night. The system starts in 8-12seconds and Rome will run smoothly

And I mean from pressing the power button on the pc till using the pc without loading icon on the mouse.
So yes, buy one! I rate you buy the same one like me, it's incredible how fast it is: Samsung SSD 840 Basic 250GB 250/540, you can buy the faster one but it's much more expensive.

I have a friend who plays Rome II review. He has SSD, he insalled Windows and Rome II on SSD and a big battle (40vs40units) loaded in just 8 seconds. My loading time of a battle in Shogun 2 was more than a minute.

Using SSD with Windows installed on it and without; does it make difference?

It will make a difference, if your OS is on a slow harddrive and rome on a SSD. DON´t do this.
The recommended use of a SSD is the following: Install OS on the SSD and ONLY the games/progs you are using frequently, anything else goes on a storage drive.
Remember, never use more than 40% of your available SSD space, or you will suffer a performance loss.

    Just my 2 Cents

Nonsense. While it's true that you should not fill the SSD completely so that the garbage collection can do its work, 40% is completely off.

Agee SSD dives have droped in price and are well worth it. Put your OS and favorite games on SSD. The OS on SSD will give you much faster boot times and make PC feel faster over all. TW games like TWS2 have long load time the SSD cuts them in half or more!

The number of units does not influence the loading times.

    Loading times improve regardless g
Your hardware as a hard disk is the slowest link. So even on sata 1 and sata 2 you will see significant improvements.

If you look for a cheap ssd please don't save on quality. Samsung 840 (not pro) 120GB is affordable and fast enough for hosting Rome 2. Also a vertex 3 will do this job for a small price.

Not directly, but needing to load more textures and atlas files will, which (usually, definitely will be for Rome 2) is a result of more units or armies, especially from multiple factions.

Don't forget to take into account your current PC specs.

And remember that bigger drives also result in far better read and write speeds. A 256 GB SSD is nearly twice as fast as a 128 GB one.

no they are not. it's like saying Rome runs better on pentium 4 than pentium 3 but it's expensive.. doh!

No they aren't that expensive anymore, i bought mine for 147,90€ which is 195$, for us (Germans) it's very cheap.

I got a new 250gb ssd installed with the OS on it and Rome2 will be on it too. Ready to go. The loading times are terrificly different (super fast) for Shogun 2. It is worth it.

Just remember, when you play MP only, you will need to wait for other (non-HDD users) to finish loading. Hence, now, I loath them. Get proper 2013 hardware. Too many people skip SSDs and have not tried them because they feel that they are not necessary. It is probably one of the most underestimated pieces of hardware of the last two years.

I think it's not so much that, the problem is system builders have been putting off adding SSDs as anything other than a super premium option because they think they're made of unicorn tears and unobtanium. Remember, the vast majority of people, even gamers, don't build their own computers.

Second that. Windows makes it easy to outsource your personal files and system folders and other stuff to a different drive.

It is an easy thing to add a SSD to an existing desktop or to replace it on a laptop. So it has less to do with a fact a lot of gamers don't put own work into it / build them their own. This thread shows how easy it is if you just bother reading it or reading the mainboard manual that describes all pictured and step by step.
