Default Two major things that makes me not want to play EB.

    Hi.

I have really hard time with the custom unitsounds in EB, is there anyway to fix those?
I think the sound is somewhat lacking in quality and it just feels wierd, on some sounds you can here that it is very recorded and it kinda breaks it for me.

Also on battle-lenght, I feel that the lenght of the battles are a bit much. You proboly get this a lot, but are there any way to shorter the battles?

    Cheers.

RS will give you battles that you will loose (or win) because the timer will run out

    I guess you are sarcastic.
I don't know why I thought or feelt that EB's battles were to long, they aren't. Maybe some tweaking would do it, still I have to play more to form a real opinion.

Hmm, I reinstalled EB and now I have no problem with the sounds so far. It was the sound quality and some of the sounds sounded very recorded, with wierd echo etc.
Maybe it was on my end, time will tell.

Now I just need to get the AI from Alexander to work with EB.

I recall there was a problem with the Roman voices in EB 1.1 (for example, a ram would say "Aries! a-a"), which was fixed either with 1.2 or a later fix of sorts. Seems your second installation is more correct.

The soldiers in EB walk slower than in Vanilla and cavalry is also slower, I think. Battles in EB were made significantly longer than Vanilla. I believe that was done on purpose so you have time to maneuvre with your light troops and cavalry while heavy infantry clashes in the centre. All to give a more historically accurate approach.

The fear I had/have is that it will be like in RS2, where flanking and using "hammer and anvil" tactics are so unrewarding, units never rout! Its just tedious.
I tested it this morning and it feelt that EB does this better... just need to mod some more.

it wont be like RS2. EB is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more balanced.

Levies are bad but will hold if used properly, elites wont stomp everything. Cavalry will do huge damage if used right, but die like flies if used wrong.

I know what you mean about RS2 hammer and anvil tactics. I played a battle against carthage, their troops just don't die even to a charge in the rear. Also, those cataphract elephants in RS2 are tanks driven by chuck norris =.= .................

hammer and anvil tactics are EXTREMELY effective in EB, especially when well timed and/or against pinned units. Also a good tactic is flanking pinned units with skirmishers, than can be really deadly.

I really like the different options and tactics you have to consider: cavalry, AP units, effective use of skirmishers etc.

Good, I like being rewarded for tactics.

But for the love of all that is holy, how do I keep my formations when moving? I have tried alt + right click, in group, out of group. I tried the group and right-click and drag but they I get them in a straight line.
    so frustraiting...
Is there a mod or setting I should know about?

You need to have everyone exempt 1 or 2 units. Usually my cavalry

Check out EB 1.2 MINI MOD PACK where AI Battle Formation by Sinhuet is include as we mention formations now. But grouping of units should work.

As Samariten said, grouping your units should keep them in formation. Sometimes it messes up for whatever reason, but most of the time it works perfectly fine.

I may be able to provide some insight into this. I might be wrong but ive noticed that the formations go out of order if you group units that have guard mode, normal mode and skirmish mode on in the same group. So for example, your infantry has guard mode but your cavalry doesnt have guard mode cause you need it to charge. If you group those two and you click somewhere, they will lose formation. Hope that helps

I haven't found this to be a problem. I quite often group infantry together when some of them have guard mode on and some of them don't with no issue.

Although, now that I think about it, it may be that I group them then turn it on. So maybe you've got something there...

Pike phalanxes tend to loose formation. They do in RTRPE and they surely do in EB.
Charging hoplite phalanxes also loose formation in EB (but the consequences are smaller than for pikes).

Pike phalanxes in EB and RS2 - the only RTW mods I play - always lose formation for me if I tell them to attack if they're already in melee. They tend to forgo their pikes and get out their swords. It doesn't seem to happen if you click an attack command before they're engaged, but if they're engaged they lose their formation in my experience. Another thing I've noticed is if you've clicked an attack command with them out of guard mode and then put them in guard mode while in combat, they'll most likely turn sideways and form up that way based on whichever direction they were moving in or something... Just some things I've noticed about phalangites in RTW ^_^.
