    Default Pre-battle speeches

In Rome 1, the commander gave a speech before battle and it was usually pretty entertaining to listen to. I would really love CA to go to town with the speeches this time, with great generals giving awe inspiring speeches, tacticians giving useful hints about terrain and the enemy army and bad generals being hilariously bad and uncharismatic.

I think this would add quite a bit to the game. I haven't played the last couple of total wars so not sure how far these sort of speeches have progressed (if at all) but would this be something you are hoping to see?

I don't know if its in shogun. But yes I miss this feature. It would be nice if they referenced old battles to remind us that we need revenge

It is in Shogun 2, except the speeches are in Japanese. Really I don't care one way or another; I wasn't too fond of the speeches. I always skipped them as I didn't really feel as if the speeches added anything to the game.

That would take some serious time for the developers. While I would love to see more in-depth speeches and not one of my priorities.

This a video that shows some of the gameplay mechanics of Rome II. Also it includes a really short peek to the speeches.

Unfortunately there's also some other non-Total War related stuff on the video. So you'll have to skip it.

I loved the speeches in the battles. It was classic to hear your general insult the other side. Or do the one where he would say they were bigger and stronger. Honestly I always thought that the speeches and such were the best parts of the game. Nothing was better than winning the battle and having your barbarian general say the enemy runs!!! ATTACK ATTACK.

Doubt it would take much time in terms of programming. Linking general/legion/terrain traits to set phrases doesn't sound too taxing. But yes, recording the audio and writing and doing the writing will take some time and cost some money. Overall I think it could well be worth it.

That said, I do hope they sort out in game balance before anything else. But pre-battle speeches would be a nice cherry on top.

@Arcani: Thanks, had seen that before though. Not sure it confirms pre-battle speech though as that could be in-game. Sounds fun though.

Rome speeches were really good and link to the to faction for instance greeks vs roman, we heard the general said that roman are like children and he talk about Ades etc.
In medieval they were to short and link to nothing, I never stop to hear them.

I hope speechs will be great.

Well in the siege of Carthage trailer where it shows the guy shouting on the boat before they land, that would also be pretty cool, send your boats to land and get a little cut scene.

I would like pre-battle speeches as I feel it would add to the tension of battle. Of course, only if it wouldn't take too much of their time working on other stuff like AI.

I didn't mind having them in the game but usually just skipped them after awhile. After the second or third run-through they didn't add anything.

I hope there will be pre-battle speeches, but I dont want it be like from Rome 1 to Shogun 2, that General standing behind his army and sit on his horse like statue, except shogun 2. I would like see that general make his speech in movement like in movies Alexander Great, bully enemies and soldiers laughing and last courage words and big screaming after it.

I like the speeches before battle if they are done well (Rome TW was the best one IMO) but if they are going to be done all silly like and what not like they were in Medieval 2 TW I'll pass!

I like it in rome 1... where your army sometimes acknowledge or mentions the name of your enemy...

The original Rome total war and Medieval 2 total war pre-battle speeches were great. Shogun 2 speeches were okay, could have been better.

Sometimes I liked the speeches, but most of the time I found myself thinking "Wow, this general really doesn't seem too intelligent. Plus, I already heard this speech a dozen times."

I want speeches. I want to see my general talking about the wars he had with the enemy, how he has beat them it been beaten. He should insult the enemy, make fun of their culture.

Unfortunately we've only seen historical battles so far with pre-written speeches. I do hope they put some effort into them for the campaign battles as well, but they really haven't since RTW.

As stated before, historical-battles seem to have them, I sure do hope they will carry to the campaign, it's very nice detail if implemented well. Like in Med2 and RTW too I believe, the traits of general actually reflected to the speech.

But good voice actors, implementing that to the game, and that would be insane ammount of dialogue, is propably freaking expensive and resource heavy to implement, so I don't believe we will see them, atleast not in launch.
