    Default Campaign Map Compilation

Will the faction previews we have seen would it be possible to stitch together a campaign map or determine how many regions there may be?

Here are all the map previews so far...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

One interesting thing I noticed was Sicily. In the Roman map Sicily looks like it is only one region but in the Carthage map half of Sicily belongs to Carthage

The maps don't match up because they are "artistic representations" of what it would look like.

    The maps don't match because:

    a) It is work in progress subject to change (ignore the "artistic representation" thing, 90% of the provinces you see there will be the final ones)
    b) They are in perspective xD

Anyways, to answer the op, just take a look at my thread:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...5#post12577395

Used spartan-warrior's map to speculate as much as I could =)

In my last count i was on 64 (SPECULATIVE) factions, many of them owning several provinces, and there are still many factions, provinces and regions to add, so you could be aiming as high as 100+ provinces.

Btw, you said regions, regions are a different thing, don't know if you mean provinces or you actually mean regions.

For instance, Sicily is not a region, the region is Magna Graecia, and has 4 provinces, Lilibaeum (Carthaginian), Syracuse (Probably Syracusan), Brundisium (Roman), and Cosentia (Roman).

Surely that is what an artist representation is: an approximated view of what the map will probably look like. The "artistic representation" part is just a fancy name for it, hence the quotation marks.

Yeah, I think the maps that have been released are to help orientate people who might not know where factions are located.

They might not have completely settled borders yet either but I bet they are fairly close and the artistic representations aren't completely out of bounds. They had to have a rough idea of campaign map beforehand due to knowing how many factions would need to be included and trade routes/rivers etc. The actual final total map can always undergo some changes as bugs are noticed an AI actions such as continually attacking 1 part map despite that area being hard to reach. If Rome for example continually tries to invade Spain despite Carthage still controlling Mediterranean islands and the sea regions between and sinking Roman fleets and armies. That would better be an AI fix but sometimes in less extreme example it is easier to change map. The sea regions and mountain passed plus large lakes/rivers always need fine touch as well.

Your most likely right, if that is the case I am looking forward to see how the region/province system works with regards to cities that have been presented on the map.

Even if the maps won't change we still get more regions than the previous RTW. we can't really say it is that bad.

Yes, I am happy whith what I see, even if i would prefer to rotate the map a bit to get south Arabia in. They would also waste less space with the african deserts and northern Russia this way.

    BUT ...

In my opinion these are provinces not regions. CA said that they implement provinces with a capital, which are composed of regions. For example: Babylonia is a province, with the capital Seleucia and is further divided into regions, which are not represented on the map so far.

If the areas we see on the map are regions, which are clustered later into large provinces, for simplifying province managment, that would be a desaster. For example: Hispania is a province you manage at once, and the borders we see are the regions inside Hispania.

Correct me, if I am wrong.

I don't know what they will implement in the end. But i think you are wrong.

If you look at the maps we have so far, you will see that each town (the area around it, i will call region from now on) is attached to a larger entity (wich i will call province from now on), those entity have their name across the other regions. One of the towns composing the provinces is bolded. Wich makes me think this is the provincial capital.

    Exemple :

Macedonia is composed of Appolonia and Pella (Pella is the capital). It may also include Larissa, but it's unclear if this region is inside Hellas or Macedonia.
