Default Unplayable factions? Same as rome 1 or more?

So, most of the playable ones are listed now.
which non-playable "factions" do you think will be in the game?
which ones will "prob" come as DLC later on?
Is there are rebel faction this time around or is every piece of land covered by a faction?

I personally really would have liked to be able to play as the greeks, or athens or sparta or something like that.
Scythia was also a favourite of mine in the old rtw 1.

I have a strong feeling the Scythians, Dacians, Seleucids, and Iberians will be unplayable, but the latter two may end up as a DLC.

No rebels this time around, CA has made all provinces minor factions (at least they should have, if I've read their announcements correctly)
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.

There won't be rebels controlling territory. It looks like there will be a lot of unplayable "barbarian" tribes, with benefits for uniting them. I'd guess each faction in Rome 1 will be in, either playable or unplayable (Thrace, Puntus, Armenia, Scythians, Dacians, Iberians, etc.). (Though the Greek cities may be split into individual city-states.)

I have gotten the impression that the unplayable factions in Rome 2 will be similar to the unplayable factions in Shogun 2. So there will probably be a lot more factions than in Rome 1. With the same units as the larger playable factions only with different colour pallets, some factions might even have one or two unique units that could be recruited as mercenary units when the faction is conquered. This would make a lot of sense and make even the unplayable factions feel unique.

If not unique units than at least some unique weapons or helmets thrown in the mix would make the smaller factions feel fleshed out.

I gues all the unplayable factions will have units from the playable factions, with maybe one unique unit if it seems really fitting. Like spartan hoplites.

Though I expect that they might be taking their roster from more than one faction. Seleucids could be a mix of the parthian and macedonian roster for example. And when made playable through DLC, they'd be upgraded to a roster as unique as the other playable factions. Kind of like the Ikko-Ikki in Shogun 2.

I reckon just because a faction is unplayable doesn't mean they won't have a unique roster.

CA said there's going to be 700+ units in R2TW, and with the new recruitment system a large part will be AoR. So some armies (esp. for factions like Carthage) will become really based upon where they were raised.

    EDIT:
Thinking about, if each faction has roughly ~20 unique units (which fits in with R1/M2), then with 8 factions you're looking at only 160 of the ~700 in-game. So that tells you a lot about how unique the unplayable factions will be!
