Save Game crash to desktop after 3 turns.

Hi there,

something really wierd happened over the weekend. I loaded up one of my saved games and after 3 turns during AI moves it crashed to desktop. I loaded it up a few times and it CTD at the same point each and every time. Then i loaded up one of my other saved games and it did exactly the same thing (had no problem like this ever!!)..... i loaded up all my saved games and they all crashed to desktop during AI moves after 2/3 turns. Very consistent throughout all of them.

So...... i deleted all games, uninstalled EB and Rome. Reinstalled rome and EB. I have started a new game, i saved it last night and will see what happens after 3 turns this evening. Very odd, very dissapointing to have had to delete all my saved games - was doing really well in all of them.

Anyone else come across this one before?

Never the less, i have restarted a brand new campaign and so far the newly saved games are holding out......

first of all, I recommend you go here:

there's a lot of information on what might cause crashes, and how to prevent them. Although maybe now it's not necessary anymore, because you deleted all savegames...

maybe you installed a mod or something or updated EB, making the saves incompatible? Must be something like that, since all your saves crashed, and it seems to be fixed now.

One last thing: I play in windowed mode, so I can easily switch from the game to my desktop without loading times, but for some reason the game is more stable this way, or at least that's how it seems to me; I rarely have any crashes, or at least way fewer than before

Wow! thankyou Biggieboy. There is some great information in your post and would be valuable not just for me (Maybe make this sticky?). I am using EB on 1.5 Rome. I do have BA and Alex, should i load them up and reload EB to help reduce the risks?

I do take care, i load all games from the main menu and not from within the game, I also wait 30secs+ before exiting the battle. I always turn the script on and i am also getting into a habit of only sending characters and units as far as they can go in one turn (only using the green area). In all fairness i have encountered some random CTD's (only in previous games) but i was able to reload the game and carry on, but the issue with all games corrupted was well and truly a stumbling block. I am now 260bc and all is well. Hopefully this was a one off?

I have no experience with EB on BI or ALX, but i've heard it has better performance, and some extra's like night battles, they do better naval invasions, they retrain their troops,... But it's too much a hassle for me to get it to work.

I really think your game got corrupted somehow, because it affected all your savegames. An occasional crash can still happen, despite all the precautions you take, but every save, every time?....

Here's a link I saved some time ago with info on using the ALX or BI exe for Europa Barbarorum.

Using the ALX exe worked for me, and I have next to none CTDs.
