Yep. That's that then.
Yep. That's that then.
It was awful. There were some genuinely good moments but what the hell happened to this wonderful show.
The battle with the Rus...didn't happen.
And the Battle of Edington was awful. How can you butcher such an important moment.

Not a GoT bad final season, but pretty awful. TF thinking Warcraft was going to launch him into movie mega stardom was where it started going downhill. The last 10 episodes were so so silly.

Is this actually based on any history or just a mythical/fantasy setting?
I think it's mostly based on sagas, just with no gods or other supernatural elements. Otherwise, the show seems to have some good acting, so if you can stomach the awful costumes/armours, misplaced fauna/geography, historical inaccuracy, and various other Hollywood cliches, you should be fine...
Not entirely correct. People definitely have shared "religious" moments. In season 4 all the sons of Ragnar hear from Odin at the same time despite being spread across a thousand miles, and in season 6 Ubbe and a ship full of Danes definitely believe they are being followed/stalked/attacked by Jormungandr.
That's just what I can remember off the top of my head.

In my understanding that would be a mythological setting if the norse gods are present in there.
It is period based, they have some religious themed scenes mostly in the early episodes that slightly go off in visuals but they aren't important. They play with things as media and tbf the sagas does/did like things that didn't happen, people that weren't, changing people's histories or place and time in it.
But its historical fiction not fantasy. 100%
Well, I liked the show. It is some great acting and drama which makes it easy for me to ignore the costumes and other questionable decisions made by the director and production.
I only followed 2 seasons though, but i plan to watch the rest some time.
My favourite character is of course Lagertha hahaha. She's after all the most believable warrior. Ms. Winnick is trained as an actual bodyguard!
Both, Germanic and Christian mythology plays a role. The obvious intention behind it is of course to make the deeply religious beliefs of those people more plausible and emotionally accessible for the audience. I think it's overall well made and the cast is very likeable.

If memory serves, it's still good up until Ragnar dies. Goes drastically downhill from there and becomes a disjointed mess by the end.
Yeah, that's often the case with the big modern TV series. At some point, the producers and actors probably also lose their passion and the commercial aspect of it remains as the only driving factor.
Somehow this is a modern thing, though. Series in the 90's and early 2000s went on and on often without ceasing to deliver a decent quality standard. Ahh, those were the days <3
Aye, The Walking Dead and GoT being the worst examples.
I'm still mad at how they bungled Eddington. One of the most important battles in early English history and you make it look like...that.
And how they built up this incredible final battle with the Rus only to settle it MOSTLY off screen.

We'll always have Paris..
This is true. The Paris arc makes a pretty solid "movie" and I have watched it as such several times just on its own.
The peak of the show...

Why is there a spinoff? Also did I see that lady from West World???
Vikings Valhalla
Coming out soon. 8 episodes.
Season 2 has already finished filming as well apparently with pre-production starting on season 3.
I'm very...whelmed. The world is so rich and yet we are stuck with the same production team making arguably questionable decisions already.
May just watch it for the battles if they are at least as good as the early ones in the original series. That bridge battle looks promising if not somewhat unique.
It's funny. 7-8 years ago I would have been over the goddamn moon about more Vikings, but now? After seasons 4-6? Meh...
