...or am I screwed when they die?
Meaning if say, Onox, dies in a battle, and he isn't in your army in the overworld (they will occasionally be back in your army) do they respawn or are you just screwed?

I know "Hylia, the False Goddess" of the "Order of the Wizzrobe" respawns if she is killed in battle. I use her as a early game Artillery to take Towns, in turns 1-10, and beyond that. She can destroy Gates. I've had her die a number of times to Hylian Trebuchet, and she appears back.
If I'm Right. If The Great Deku Tree Dies, I think you are just screwed.
I don't know about any others though.
for me, if I win, immediately.
One has to wonder why Hylia can never die.
Theory #1. The Wizzrobes just pick up all of the bits and pieces, polish them, and stick them back together.
Theory #2. Hylia has not brought light into Ganon's lair, therefore, she cannot die.
Theory #3. Hylia is really a deity that is just pretending to be fake to mess with the Wizzrobes.
(What an M. Night Shamalamawhatever level twist!)

I wrote this before, but apparently the site decided to delete it.
In the event of a victory, the game will replenish some units you lost during the battle in each group, listed under the "units healed" portion of the statistics list you get after battle. This restores a portion of the squad. In the case of Hylia, however, she is a single unit. Thus, any replenishment regenerates her, as the game cannot work in fractions of a unit. If you lose the battle, no replenishment takes place. Thus, you lose Hylia forever in the event of a defeat in which she died.

Ok, thanks, this helped me a lot, now I don't have to worry about Hyrule royally screwing me over if I lose her but still get a victory. I've been playing as wizzrobes for 36 turns, and Hyrule never gets the message. I've killed at least 3.5k of their troops, but they keep trying to kill me. I wish the Hylian faction A.I.'s aggressiveness could be nerfed, but I don't think that's possible considering they're only agro because they think they're big and mighty just because they start out with 7 settlements.
If I remember right I think Neph purposely made Hyrule super aggressive. Not really a fan of that because it means they try to murder everyone and everything like the Kokiri used to.
Well, given the context of his universe (where the hylians closely resemble a nation of templar) it makes sense that they'd be aggressively expansive whenever possible, I just wish the factions controlled by the NPCs would realize this a little more and force hyrule to fight on multiple fronts, which is the major weakness of starting in their territory with a diplomatic penalty and more shinies than everyone else...
