    Default The Lord's Assembly

All Lords of England are invited to attend this meeting outside London to determine the next king. The Archbishop of Canterbury is also welcome, but no other Clergy are allowed to attend this gathering, as they have already voted of their own accord.

William stands to adress the assembled lords.

"My lords, we are faced with a crisis never seen before in England. We lack a legitimate king, and now another bastard claims the throne. What can we do, my lords? Who should wear the conqueror's crown as the true king?"

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
ooc: This isn't really a mod activity due to the actual Lords being playable characters and the NPC Lords technically being controlled by the King. However, due to the nonexistant turnout of player Lords, I'll try to act accordingly.

There were three. Only three Lords of England had turned up for this, if they could even truly be classed as Lords. The vast majority of the nobility were still overseas and so only three pairs of eyes followed William as he stood. Well, two pairs of eyes, Baron Hull had been completely blind for the past ten years... The man sitting next to him was his son and all the way on the other side of the room was Henry, Lord of Barnstaple, always plotting something and no doubt only here today to see if what William had to say was anything that he could add to one of his many existing schemes.

    He wandered back.

"Well? No ideas? We are just going to let de Clare have it?"

Is he not the true King..?

"Only according to himself, or so we have heard."

And who are we to dispute his claim before the army returns?

    Barnstaple smirked at Hull.

You old fool, England is breaking, just waiting for us to divide it amongst ourselves.

    He grinned at Barnstaple

"Exactly. So what can we do? March upon London?"

I have no desire for London.

Barnstaple had every desire for London...

    William sighed.

"Well then, content yourself with Barnstaple. For I ride to London."

    To do what, Nottingham?!

Hull got to his feet after a few tries. He would not take any talk of rebellion well.

    He turned to hull.

    "To overthrow the bastard king"

He rides off into the countryside, to summon his men who had encamped not far from here.

Seeing the men of Nottingham preparing for a fight, those of Hull begin to form into defensive ranks whilst a small part detaches in acquiescence to Nottingham's banner. Baron Nottingham is soon met by the son of Hull who was with him at the Assembly.

He raises his hand as hull approaches, signalling his retinue to stop.

"Hull. Why do you come to fight?"

Hugh Vernon, your Lordship, his son. I am not here to fight, not you at least. I come to offer you my aid against the wishes of my father, he does not yet know what I have done, I think.

    He smiles, relieved.

"Very good, sir Hugh. It is good to have you by my side. We ride for London."

William gestures for Hugh to follow him to the camp of the forces of Nottingham along with his forces.
