Default FotS, Rome2...signs point to Victorian Era?

I believe in combination with what seems to be the popular opinion that Victorian era should be next, FotS and Rome2 present excellent signs that it could be next after they have finished with Rome2

FotS demonstrated that CA can create naval bombardment, Ironclad naval combat, decent gunpowder based land battles, and railways...

and while it is too soon to say anything about Rome 2 and details are limited, we know the following:

    1. A reworked province system may allow for "WW1 style" trench warfare, in the sense that one could invade, occupy, and perhaps use part of another country without actually owning it.

    2. Navies are getting interaction in land battles, this could be similar to getting aircraft to work in both areas and thus function as part of a battle without being part of an army, and thus able to act somewhat independently on a campaign map from an army...allowing for a Victorian era game to go into WW1.

    3. The stated ability to "form new Empires" would work well for say, playing Sardinia or Prussia, and forming Italy or Germany.

Now this is all speculation, but then, this forum is here for us to discuss things...
Sometimes I argue in favor of things i don't necessarily believe for the sake of a good argument. ( #51 )

And sometimes i argue in favor of things because i believe in my argument. ( #16 )

I hope it's Victorian era next. Then again knowing CA we're probably gonna get Napoleon 2.

    Jesus, man!

Last year there were threads, "Shogun 2, FoTS, Victoria next?" and "Napoleon, Shogun 2, Victoria next?" Why do these Victoria speculation threads pop up every time they announce a new game? Rome 2 is 6 months away! We're a minimum of a year to 2 years before a new Total War is announced!

As for the game itself, I'd much rather a Colonialism Total War in the unexplored time period between Empire and Medieval, or a Dark Ages between Barbarian Invasion and Medieval. Those have been on my wishlist pretty much since Empire (which is my least favorite, btw)

    Victoria? Eh.

WW1 coverage would be amazing and I agree that it could work quite well with current systems, just to push FOTS a little further. It has a great wealth of material to pull ideas from. The transition of old and new technology and tactics alone would provide a fantastic arc to the campaign. I guess it would just have to shift slightly from focusing entirely on the province capitals and more on the outlying towns/bases. As you said a sub-province system would work well... for example you could have an air base as a town that provides air support within a large radius (similar to offshore bombardment), if captured by an enemy army it could be used against you. The railway or telecommunication system could be vitally important in this way too, and an expanded supply system. Also just thought that armies could even be split up as long as they are within a certain distance from the "general" unit, that way you could cover a greater area but they all get brought into individual battles for instance. Maybe something like they're doing with Rome 2 legions. It would just need to retain that "Total War" feeling.

I'm also simply looking forward to a Barbarian Invasion remake as a Rome 2 expansion. That was one of my favourite eras covered, I just think the original expansion was kind of lacking. Also colonialism could be interesting... a Conquistador Total War or something. If it had Americas, Africa, South-East Asia and Australasia as theatres while you are only linked to the home nation, like Spain or Britain for resources, support etc but do not have direct control of them. If you gather if enough support you could rise up and establish your own sovereign state. If this does actually exist as a game then I'd like a link.

Victoria would be interesting and the absolute latest a Total War could go to.
This is mainly because I enjoy massive amounts of artillery that hits very hard and rifles that destroy everything that falls in their sights.

An Empire 2 done properly would be equally good.

But if you enjoy artillery and rifle fire then why stop at the Victorian age? Also, WW1 is the culmination and the climax of everything that happened during the Victorian age. And in a sense WW2 is like a rematch of WW1 with the Victorian system shattered by and the world in disarray because of WW1.

IMO Total War has no definite limit after which they can't go any further. The absolute latest CA could go while still making sense historically speaking is the Cold War period. What if communism didn't wither away, but in fact turned aggressive? But in a way it's just the continuation of WW2 without fascism/national-socialism. WW2 is also the perfect end because it the run-up towards nuclear warfare.

A WW1 and WW2 scenario (with extension into the Cold War period obviously) some day would be great. That being said I do hope to see another Empire TW as well as a Victorian TW with a historic WW1 scenario as expansion.
