M2TW Not Launching.

A few basics:
It is running through Steam.
I am running Avast, but Steam and all Steam-related categories are exceptions.
Running Windows 7.
I have tried it with UAC enabled and disabled.
I have tried giving all launchers Admin privileges.

The problem is, when I attempt to start Medieval 2 (the base game), it shows up in Task Manager but it doesn't launch. Kingdoms and mods all run, though. Though when I grabbed the Medieval launcher and renamed it Launcher (as another thread suggested), it said that it was missing mss32.dll. I have verified the game cache.

Anyhow, that's basically it! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this is correct, and there isn't an application-specific diagnostic tool.

Have you tried it without avast?
Are you using a router?
What are you using for a firewall?

I have tried it without Avast, I am using a router, and I am using the standard Windows firewall. I have also tried disabling the firewall.

One odd note, however: when I go into the game files to the .exe's, medieval2 and Launcher both go into the launcher. However, kingdoms starts Medieval 2 to the loading screen (with the armored knights in the city) before crashing into an error screen with no information. Oddly enough, when I start it from different sources (the .exe launchers or the Steam menu) it shows as having different amounts of memory usage in Task Manager.

The Steam version will get you to the launcher because it's what Sega/CA is using for the game's DRM.

some routers and Steam have proven to conflict because of the router's builtin firewall/security. You may have to find a way to defeat it.

Just a quick question - does this crash happen in Offline mode as well? And for your benefit here are the port settings for Steam - Required ports for Steam. Good luck!

Alright, thank you. The crash does happen in Offline mode as well... Thank you for the port settings, though I'm unfortunately inexperienced in that department- what am I supposed to do with them?
