    Default To Catch a Tratior

OOC: I actually look a bit like Chris Handson lol

King Richard the II, after having been handed kingship, orders the royal army to move out and attempt to catch up to the forces of Lord Leichester.

A messenger has ridden to the Earl, exausting his horse, and gives the Earl two options: Surrender peacefully, and your men and family will be spared, or resist and your men will be killed, your property seized, and your family either killed or exiled from England

The persuing royal army made excellent time, while the escaping Earl's march was met with constant delays and fustrations, it wasn't long before the dust cloud of the royal army appeared behind them, shortly after advanced scouts were seen by the Earls rearguard... It seemed a confrontation was inevitable...

OOC: Ace just rolled really good.

The royal army deploys in battle formation and marches towards the earls troops, but several criers ride out and shout to the earls men

Your master has committed treason against the rightful king of England and now you are in a nearly hopeless situation, but you need not die for it, lay down your arms, or defect to the royal army, and you shall be pardoned for your masters deeds

IC: Vercin Rayne Says "Permission to lead the charge, sir....we must destroy these traitors"
"WE WILL SMITE THE INVADERS FROM OUR SKIES! Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again will we bow before them; never again endure their oppression; never again endure their tyranny. We will strike without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors' graves with their blood. And as our last breath tears at their lungs; as we rise again from the ruins of our cities...they will know: Helghan belongs to the Helghast." -Scholar Visari

    King Richard the II says

Aye, lead on, I shall be right behind you. You capture the traitor alive you shall receive his lands. I wish to give the bastard a slow painful death at my hand to send a message to those who doubt my rule in England

Leicester had refused the call to parley with this man who now called himself King. He had taken the chance to flee farther north, though he must have known that the pursuing army would catch up to them...

Only the Leicestrian vanguard kept any formation, thus making them slower than those marching before them, though hopefully they could provide a decent defence if they were caught.

OOC: So they are retreating and you do know the royal army is to number at least 5500 men (My troops, + the royal army, and any additional lords who remain loyal)

The king surveys the Situation and rides over to Vercin and says

The bastards are retreating. I want you to take as many of our forces as possible and destroy the van, then we can scatter or capture the remaining rabble.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
ooc: I do know that Richard II's army is 5010 men only. This is composed of Vercin's 10 men and the King's 5000. The King's personal army is that of 5000 men and not 5500, he is either a King or a Baron and as King supersedes Baron there are 5000 men.

It seemed that the Royal army might not catch them, they were not even giving chase any more but instead seemed to be talking amongst themselves. Leicester spurred his horse onwards...

OOC: I was waiting for KOVAV to respond, jesus, do I have to do everything myself?

The king, upon hearing his Marshal Vercin go seemly mute, draws his sword and gives the order to move forward with the Knights at a trot and the infantry double timing it, and then when they are within a few hundred yards, the calvary will separate into wings and attack both flanks of the vanguard and then the infantry will hit in the center

Seeing the charge, the vanguard halted and readied themselves, burying the butts of their spears in the soft earth. Leicester still continued fleeing north, hoping to find an easily fortified place to hold out against his pursuers.

de Clare then takes a page out of the book of Alexander and has his calvary break off right before they impact, forcing them to deploy facing the flanks and weakening their center for the infantry charge that will hit in the next 30 or so seconds.

The king then leads the charge of horsemen onto the backs of the retreating army, picking a group of peasant levy infantry near the back of the army to attack with lances to create casualties and chaos and try to turn the retreat into a rout

The vanguard had already deployed and so were thankful to see the cavalry bypass them completely. When the infantry finally caught up with them, they had been charging for a long time and the order was given for the vanguard to annihilate them as fast as possible. Though the vanguard were outnumbered against the infantry, they had not been charging and were able to initially outmatch the royal troops.

The scene behind them was a different matter entirely. Half of the group was being trampled by the cavalry whilst the rest still sought to flee. Leicester was still fleeing and so his army followed him, barely putting up a fight.

Leicester finally spurred his horse around, joined by his guard. There was a river in the distance that he had hoped to put between him and Richard's army, though it was too late now.

You and me, Baron! Face me alone and I'll take you down!

Leicester's vanguard was performing admirably and above expectation, they had been left alone against Richard's infantry and were still winning out over them. It looked like they would win this part of the field...

    de Clare laughs

    Traitors deserve no honor

the king has several of his guard throw their lances at Leicesters horse to kill it and they charge to dispell the few remaining guards of Leicester

OOC: Ifs its possible, I want tohave him thrown or pinned by his dead horse then to kill him execution style or capture or for a later, slower death

    OOC: Did some rolls.

Unsuited for use as missiles, all the lances missed, falling well short of the Earl who now sped towards Richard. Swinging his sword arm out wide, Leicester caught the pretender full force in the chest with his sword hilt acting as a solid extension of his arm. Was it enough to knock the man off of his horse?

Meanwhile, the King's guard were now caught up in the melee with Leicester's, giving Richard and the Earl their own small arena within which to fight.

OOC: I do SCA heavy armored combat, and word to how this fight will go, sword cuts on the mail and padded armor people would be wearing would rarely go through any armor and the sword is rather light so hits to the torso besides the joints or head would most likely not drop a guy. Now, maces and stab wounds are a different matter. Though at this time horses were not armored, and when horses were later armored, the sides and bottom of the neck was not armored so the animal could breathe

de clare, seeing the traitor ride towards him, rode forward, so the momentum of de Clare, a rather large man and his horse overcame that of Leichester. And the king, instead of trying to wound a heavily armored man with a sword cut, instead aims to slash at the throat of the Traitors horse to disable it

Gundulf O'Donivan leads the kings infantry ordering them to form up and fight for the true king. He does his best to reform and order the line held. He exhorts the men with shouts and prods and battle cries trying to force them
to fight valiantly. He sees that his forces outnumber the enemies and orders the center to thin and for them to catch the enemy in the rear. He leads his knights on the right with the extra men on that side on a fresh flanking attack.

OOC: Basically using superior numbers a simple double envelopement with me leading the right with my knights in an attack on the rear.

Charge men! Let's show these damned traitorous bastards the way to hell! Slaughter the pigs!
