Whatever and whoever opinion's is, my favorite are the Silver Shields! I love that infantry!
Coming to this, I really hope that the Seleucids are playable... They were one of my favorite factions along with Carthage and the Greek Cities!

I was just reading about them. Trading their General Eumenes to get their baggage back was cold. If they offer to make you their general you might want to decline.

First of all, Great pictures friend! Really great! Other than that, how do you know they will be in Rome 2? Well, they probably will be at some point. We have yet to see battle mechanics for Rome 2... What to choose?.... I'm always a phalanx person - not the pinning type of phalanx but the grinder phalanx. You set a mean table friend. I'd go with the chariots this time. I imagine they will dash really fast to chop and mangle... Except for makedonian phalanx, what could stop them?...

Seleucid will not be playable but the factions will be there. You can fight these units instead, not using them.

Syrian archers my far. Require little to no training, cheap to maintain, and even to abuse. Run and Shot. Choose your own battlefield, time and place to fight.

Cataphracts were deadly but too heavy and couldn't do a fully head on charge. Why? They lacked a stir up. Instead, they needed the enemy's line to be in disarray or broken so that they can be effective. They were perfected in other forms when the stirup was invented by the barbarians

The Silver Shield was another word for armored phalanx. Though, strong on front line, it too suffered the same weakness that all other phalanx did; it had no way to turn or detach effectively or swiftly. As a result, it needs too many other types of infantry to be effective. It doesn't work well on hills, nor rugged terrain, forest, or pretty much anything BUT plain fields.

Romanized infantry? Again, this is stupid way to categorize soldiers/units. What does this even mean? It's already proven that varies enemies attempted to "copy" the infantry of Rome. So why is it that when they fought Rome, they still lost? Iberia, Pontus, Seleucid, Greeks..etc all tried. They failed because the key was not the army ability to fight, it was the discipline organization not just of the individual unit and legion but the state as well. Again, this is why by 3rd Century AD, Roman Army wasn't the strongest in it's hemisphere.

Recent research has suggested that the impact of the stirrup wasn't as great as once thought; besides which, the classical cataphract didn't operate like the medieval knight. It charged at the trot rather than the gallop, and was a close combat unit par excellence rather than an impact unit. They usually had armoured horse archers integrated with them as well. My vote goes to armoured elephants, but only a short way in front of cataphracts, silver shield pikes, and scythed chariots!

Romanied infantry did not exist. Rome adopted their infantry of the Celts, Iberians and others from the western med: swordsmen with big sheilds standing in a very loose formation. According to Polybius the Romans had about twice the spacing of their enemies. Hellenistic armies never fought like that. On the flanks of the pikemen they needed non-pike infantry. The solution was whatever foreign allies they could muster, or Greek spearmen in a similar loose formation, looser than a Hoplite phalanx.

I don't know why, but for some reason I really want the seleucids to be left out and their territory to be controlled by rebels... Preferably celtic rebels with full stacks of war dogs roaming the territory...I really don't know why I feel like this but it could have something to do with the 100+ threads pushing for the seleucids to be in the game...

BTW I voted other, for scythed silver armoured war dog. It will be epic to hear the growl as they slammer into the enemy ranks. And just imagine the epicnes of the lumps of feet these scythed animals will leave after them. Just like the battle of Antioch in 98 BC! So epic!

This is off-topic, but no they didn't. The maniple arose from Italic tribal warfare, where individual skill was highly valued and formations had to be loose and mobile to fight effectively in the mountains and hills.

Oh god, please do this CA. The resulting hundreds of rage threads with the exact same people in each one will be absolutely hilarious to watch.

Actually, no. It first originated from Iberians...

No, some of the gear the Romans ended up adopting came from Iberians. The maniple was an Italic formation and the similarity with certain Iberian warriors was due to similar conditions both fought under.

I feel the same way as you. I really have developed a hatred for the Seleucids since joining TWC
