Retrofit Mod and Custom Campaign Mod 2 can't find valid Kingdoms Installation. I need help.

I played this game years ago and had it all set up perfect. My memory is terrible and I have no recollection of how I set it all up. Now that I have a new computer with Windows 8 and I search online for answers, I can't find any that work.

I install the base game and then kingdoms through Steam. I also own the box version. I can't remember if I used that or the steam version but I have a feeling I figured out how to make the steam version work.

What I need from you guys is to know how to get it working again. Everytime I launch CCM2 or retrofit 1.0, it says:

ERROR: Setup was unable to find a valid Medieval II Total War installation.

Custom Campaign Mod 2/Retrofit 1.0 requires Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms version 1.05.000

Setup aborted.

I checked the version, its 1.05 despite it saying its nonexistent. I tried launching the mod file in the folder with kingdoms.exe, that didnt work either. I tried making a SEGA folder like other posts recommended but it didn't work and I don't remember having to do that last time. I'm wary of making reg changes and I know for certain that I never did that, period.

I'm at my wits end and I want to enjoy some good old times with MW2 again but I'm not going to spend a whole day messing with this, if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. Or else, I'm just going to say forget it and uninstall.

I tried what the people said and it didn't resolve my issue. Irish, I can't even install the mod because it can't find a valid copy of kingdoms.

Tried reinstalling the game after doing all those steps?

Did you have both Steam version and box version installed at the same time? Does regular M2TW and Kingdoms work without trying to play with this mod?
