Simple Text edit, major headache

I am trying to do some simple edits to the desc_strat file, these edits are increasing the income of certain factions in an attempt to make the game more of a challenge later on. However the game CTD as I enter my first battle.
I have read several threads on changing the name of data\descr_geography_new.txt and data\descr_geography_new.db. this sometimes allows me to fight a few battles but then the game CTD again.

To say the least I am not the most computer literate person in the world, and the notes in the editor readme about making a batch file is beyond my comprehension as I really have no idea what a batch file is and after googleing it I am still unclear.

If anyone could explain in simple steps to me what I need to do I would gladly send you 10,000 Florins and a fine princess for your entertainment.

If you have Kingdoms installed, install a Kingdoms mod and study and practice on it.
