    Default Has Realm Divide Changed

    Hi All,

Haven't played Shogun for a while and when I used to play towards the end it was mostly with DarthMod.

However recently I reinstalled Shogun (Darthmod was uninstalled) and started a Vanilla Short Campaign with Uesugi on Hard. All going well, got to 15 provinces (just before Realm Divide), Allied with Date (only two provinces) and a Very powerful Hattori clan (Who had 20 plus provinces). Enemies with Mogami who have 3 provinces to my North.

knowing that Realm Divide would hit after I took the next province I turtled a bit, built up my armies on my border with Hattori (expecting them to turn against me) and built one army to go North and crush the Mogami and Date.

Got bored of turtling and decided to attack Mogami took their province and Realm divide hit. Expected all hell to break loose but it didn't, the South of Japan turned against me (Shimazu with 20 provinces) and Chosokobe, but the Hattori clan and Date stuck with me. Its now five or six turns later and still neither the Hattori or date haven't betrayed me. Its become a North vs South War!!

All my previous games on Vanilla everyone hated me as soon as Realm Divide hit, so has this been changed recently, has anyone else had similar games, or should I expect the Hattori clan to attack me at any moment?!

    Cheers

    beware the Hattori...

last i checked, RD was unchanged in vanilla...its all about your existing relations (a good solid alliance probably sits around +150 relations, RD brings it down by about 10-20 per turn, with side changing coming around -50 relations

they will turn against you haha
last time after realm divide I became Shogun. Takeda were my longtime allies, since turn 2 and we fought many common enemies together. Chosokabe were my allies too and held regions close to Kyoto.
So I'm Shogun, fighting the remnants of the Ikko-Ikki and the Mori clan in the West alongside the Chosokabe when they suddenly declare war on me?! So I move eastwards again, take some chosokabe regions, and see three Takeda stacks moving West. I was really happy.

5 turns later they attack kyoto... never touched that campaign again haha

You did exactly what you have to maintain your alliances during RD. When RD penalty gets higher you have to occasionally feed them 10k koku for +100 relations.

I just feed them 10K on turn one of RD, which typically keeps them allied long enough for me to not be concerned about them anymore...

primarily have allies for the continued economic benefit as is, but i also pick my RD allies to be nice punching bags for my rivals...I keep good enough relations with most factions, and avoid enough wars before RD that i typically have my pick

I had a realm divide once where I was Oda & I was allied with the Date. The Date stuck it through with me till the very end to my surprise. THen I had to be merciless & attack them when it was just the two of us haha

You capture Kyoto before Realms Divide? if so when you became Shogun, everyone will treat you as their new Shogun and will not start instant aggressive to you on next turn immediately. Your allies and friendly clans still happy with you but they will start growing hate each turn.

Until RD effect build up to -100 + and everyone start dislike you now, that when you face everyone everywhere that very dislike and hostile but still there allies to help you fight them before they join those.

If not capture Kyoto and become Shogun before Realms Divide, prepare to got butt kicked from everyone next turn.

    Thanks Guys for the advice.

I'm definitely going to have to try giving the Hattori 10K to keep them peaceful for just long enough until I can wipe out Mogami and Date and then I can turn all my armies against them.

Got a bit of time to play tonight so will give an update as to how that goes. Will try and get a few pictures up!!

Love the sound of some of the campaigns mentioned above about clans sticking with you until the end!!

Yes, the allies will help you til the end as long as you maintain their relationship is friendly.

After you declare your Shogunate, you can make trustworthy allies to clan that arise later by rebel and vassal you make after Shogunate declaration without backstab on you because the effect "Realms Divide" is gone since you are now Shogun and their Shogun but those clan that not wipe out yet, they still stay hostile to you because you sized the crown from previous Shogun.

Otherwise, all allies you make, all vassals you have, they felt excitement and happily to crush you. So be prepare : )

For anyone interested I managed to become Shogun and win the campaign , I made it difficult for my self by attacking the Hattori before I had conquered the North. Meant fight a Two front war against Date and Hattori, with a Third front opening up when Chosokabe landed on my shores (That was a nightmare ). Managed to take Kyoto and hold it for the four turns before Shimazu turned up with 4 stacks and Hattori mustered together one to besiege Kyoto.

Haven't tried the battle yet should be a good one, but don't give my self much of a chance!!

Should have at least 2 full stack of naval fleets before realms divided, should help alot when AI stupidly send full stack of army to the real of front line.
