taxes/population
hi
assuming happiness is the same.... do high populations or low populations produce more tax revenue....
seems like an obvious answer, but for some reason in my head, i thought in vanilla rome, your tax revenue went up with a lower population for some reason.
thanks

Re: taxes/population
The number you see written next to the name of the city is not profit of the city. It's connected to the relative contribution of funds to your entire empire.
A large city will usually have a negative number because the contributions a city makes is proportional to its population compared to population of your whole empire. If you have a lot of small cities and a few big, the big ones will always have negative numbers but if you look at a late game empire where most cities are large, they will all have large positive numbers.
While this seems confusing, check the Finances area of each city (wagon icon?) to see the actual profit it makes.

More people in a city equals more tax. You want to try not to deplete your cities because most of your income is from tax. Only like 20-30 percent is taken up by mining, agriculture and trade.
