Default does TW rome gold need a patch?

    hi,

I recently re-started with rome and I can't find a patch for rome gold nor is it explained in the FAQ.
the magnus map is quite nice but it does not say which requirements are needed.

what other mods are nice to play?

Roma Surrectum II is the ultimate mod in my opinion.

Rome Total War Gold is patched to the latest edition.

First of all - welcome to TWC!

If you have Rome Gold there is a good chance that the game is already patched to the correct level (some versions may not be). The way to check this is to look in-game on the top right hand corner of the options menu. If you're using R:TW then it should show 1.5. If you're using R:TW BI then it should show 1.6. If you ever use the R:TW Alex exe it will show 1.9 (no patches).

As far as mods go there is a wide variery out there that deal with various historic time frames and also fantasy games (Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones for instance). It depends on what t you are looking for.

When you install a mod I'd suggest taking a copy of your R:TW folder and install the mod onto the copy. This way if you don't like the mod you just delete the copy and don't need to uninstall/reinstall R:TW. I do this even if the mod is 'mod foldered' (so it should be safe to have multiple mods in the same folder).

Edited: There is this thread (here) for people who want mod recommendations (there may be something already mentioned that could be interestng to you).
