Default Crash during AI turn.(6.0 Gold)

My game crashes on the carthage AI turn...I need to be able to move thier units around in spain to prevent it. I've fixed crashes this way before by taking over control of the faction in question, but I completely forget how to take control of another faction...Can anyone refresh my memory? All I remember is that it envolves editing a file, it's not an ingame cheat.

I asked you becouse in RTR Platinum there seems to be a problem with a resourse(some errors in the resource listings of the descr_region.txt and descr_strat.txt files). One was related to Carthage and it could be that it was causing CTDs. Now, all this is for RTR Platinum(which is a direct port of RTR 6 Gold to the engine of RTW v1.5) and it will be taken care of with the RTRPE v1.7 that will be released in a few days. I thought you had Platinum and I could bring you a possible good news.
I can`t help you with the cheat as I don`t know about such a cheat. Try to google for it.

It was posted in the RTR forums...but I haven't exactly been able to access them in awhile. They suggested it when one of thier patches caused an Egyptian town without a port, to have a naval base. Everytime the AI tried to make a ship at this town, the game would crash.

The RTR forums are down for more then a month. They are switching hosts.
I don`t remember that problem. For which version was the patch?

Are any settlements exhibiting serious unrest? If so, do whatever you can to prevent that settlement from rebelling.

By any chance, would the next faction to make its moves be the carthaginian one? There was a problem corrected for RTRPE that might very well still be present in RTR 6 Gold:

Looks like Carthage is not the next faction to make its turn. As far as I can tell, it's crashing during the Gauls' turn. None of the cities that I have spies close to are close to rebelling, but there is one Gallic town under siege by Iberia. Would one faction conquering another's city cause a crash? I want to say it hasn't in my game in the past, but it's been a long time since I've played.

Still trying to figure this one out.

I'm guessing by that you mean any AI settlements? None of my settlements are on the verge of rebelling (I'm playing as Rome).

    Yes, AI settlements.

I think a common cause of this problem was the player destroys all the barracks buildings in a settlement (and probably everything else that can be destroyed to get the cash) and sets taxes on high. The settlement rebels but as there is no barracks it can't produce any units and it's an instant CTD.....

A lot of mods have arranged for the indestructible government building (or some other building) to always be present in the settlement so this never happens.

The one good thing about the AI is that it does not destroy buildings, however, it may be possible that a settlement simply does not have a barracks yet.

So, look for AI settlements that look like they are rebelling and see if they have a barracks building. The problem is that I don't think you can do that much about it. The only thing you could try is to create a character or several units in the settlement once it's been identified (I am not sure if there are cheat codes to do that).

Right. And definitely look into Florin's post. That's a serious CTD that's probably still present in RTR6G.

If you have FOW off then you should be able to see if the settlement is rebelling or not - I think.

The only thing I can think of besides removing the map.rwm to let it be regenerated(sometimes this helps) is this:

Never tried it myself, but if you`re desperate enough... Do make backups of everything you change and your saved games for before editing anything.
