I think that it is pretty cool that you can negotiate with other factions to get your cardinal elected. I haven't heard that before. Thanks.

Either you demand other factions to vote for you (buy them off) or sell your vote and make some nice cash. The cool thing is that new pope actually remembers who voted for him and who against - you have nice situation
The best part I like is that pope actually has a personality/character himself - either corrupt or very faithful :happy0144 It will certainly be fun dealing with him

Religion is probably the biggest feature I'm looking forward to.
Sounds like they really put some effort into it this time and it sounds fun.
Gonna be fun dealing with the pope.
Sounds like the Pope will become a nuisance to me :confused0Originally Posted by TB666

You should create a priest that is peaceful and that loves his king, then make him a cardinal and then the pointy hat.
And just like that you got a pope that loves you and won't bother you.
I do wonder what would happen if the pope is crazy.
Will he demand you conduct a crusade against other catholics or maybe he will shout out random crazy stuff like ordering you to shave his buttocks or something.
I wonder if the pope can go heretic
It would be interesting to see you put a puppet pope in charge only for him to get drunk on power and turn against you
Just because the Pope used to be your priest doesn't make him automatically love you. He should favour you, but if you have heretics on the move in your lands, attack Catholic factions, and refuse his demands then he will most probably turn against you.Originally Posted by Lord Kal
Well I think in M2TW the pope is the only one that can allow you to conduct a crusade.Originally Posted by Foytaz
You can't do it yourself like in M1TW.
Atleast that's how I read it.
Well all catholics can in M2TW and I think they could in M1TW as well.Originally Posted by Foytaz
polish cannot, and we are a catholic country. also hungary and denmark. i wish that will change in the sequel..
Polish Total War Universe - now in English version
Well they can now in M2TW.
Kinda interested in how Jihads work.
We know it is one of your own Imams that will call it and it works as a crusade.
But do they only get money for completing it or do they gain some from of status maybe among your own priests ??
Sounds interesting to me, Crusades should be fun, hopefully if you elect your own Pope you might be able to choose a Crusade target.
As for the Pope remembering who voted for who, i thought it was all done by secret ballot in the conclave? was it different in the middle ages or is this representing corruption?
Also ho come the Orthodox religions dont have any crusade or Jihad type abilities? i know historically they may not have called any, but surely they had the ability and did the Patriarchs have the right to call one?

Despite the importance the Byzantine Empire (or Ρωμανία, as it called itself) attached to its position as the defender of true, orthodox Christianity against Muslim and Catholic alike, it is worth noting that the Empire never developed or understood the concept of a "holy war." Its neighbours' concepts of Jihad and Crusade seemed to it gross perversions of scripture or simple excuses for looting and destruction. Emperors, generals and military theorists alike found war to be a failing of governance and political relations, to be avoided whenever possible. Only wars waged defensively or to avenge a wrong could in any sense be considered just, and in such cases the Byzantines felt that God would protect them".
So imo Byzantines could only have kinda like defensive 'crusades' to reconquer their lost lands.![]()

Thanks for that info! Outstanding post, that answered everything, good research there :happy0144 . Thats very interesting, it makes sense now why they cannot launch holy warsIf I'm not mistaken Byzantines' war philosophy was more about the defence of their lands and hellenistic civilization
