Default Questions About Gold Edition and DLC

Before Shogun 2 first released, I decided to wait for a gold edition so that I could could play the full game from the start, however, because I live in the US it will not come with any of the DLC. I looked up the DLC on steam and found out that it would add an additional $40 to the price of the game. After adding that to the cost of the Gold Edition, the price ends up at about $80, a price I am not willing to pay. I then found the UK version, which was priced at £34.79 on amazon.

I decided that either buying the UK edition or waiting for a steam sale would be the best option. I would like to know if the UK gold edition is compatible with a US steam account. If it is, where is the best place to buy it, and is the UK Gold Edition in limited production or is that only the Wajima-nuri inspired packaging? If the UK edition is not compatible, how often does steam sell the Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai DLC at a 75% discount?

I didn't expect that to work.

I tried several times to post in the Gold Edition sticky thread but kept getting denied.

I'd still like this answered, but does anyone know why I couldn't reply to the thread that was already there?

I don't know but the box ism just different in content depending on where they are sold but as long as you have the key code you can activate in Steam anywhere, doesn't matter where you bought them.

For discount wait for Summer or Winter sales. That's for sure. There rest depending on Steam/SEGA. They may have Total WAr Grand Collection on Steam prior to release on Rome II though.

Generally today, games--especially those that use Steam authentication can be played from most anywhere. At the worst, if the game were localized for some reason, you would still be able to download the local stuff after using your authentication code

However, the problem you are probably going to encounter is that AmazonUK will not ship the game to the US. I have run into this before, but they usually have restrictions on shipping such items overseas, especially if a version of the same item is available via domestic Amazon.com. You might try one of the UK on-line game shops, but the few times I've looked into this they were either not willing to ship to the US or if they were, the shipping cost was half again the cost of the game.

The problem may be that there is no easy way to get the European/UK/AU version to North Americal without paying almost as much you would if you simply bought the NA version and then all the DLC.

I assume that one has to have a minimum post count before one can post in certain areas.

    Cheers

Thank you for the responses. If I can't find a UK version for a reasonable price, I'll wait for a summer sale. I've seen games and DLC sold on steam at a 75% discount before. Does this often happen with Total War games? If it does, will all the Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai DLC probably be on sale at the same time?

Yes. While I always buy the main game (ETW & S2) on release date I always bought DLC and expansions (NTW & ROTS & FOTS) when they are 75% on sale. Sometimes look out for midweek sales in case there's a sale for SEGA titles.

You can set up alert for almost any Steam game if they are on sale. Just make sure you have reserve funds to buy it asnytime they were on sale.
