Default Crash in middle of battle

I've been lurking a bit to find an answer but the solutions either 1. did not apply, 2. did not work. I tried the UAC set to zero. Turned off the daylight savings.

Right now I have 3.2 installed. It worked fine. I had an Eriador campaign that went to about 100 turns, plenty of battles fought, no issue. Until, I installed MOS, maybe just a coincidence. I reinstalled TW + MOS, still crashes so I uninstalled again. Reinstalled, restarted computer. Still crashes about half-way through my battles.

Everything else works fine, all my drivers are up to date (Win 7 64-bit, AMD 7970M).

If anyone has any ideas please let me know! I'm willing to try anything, this mod is so neat and I really would love to enjoy it some more. I've played the Game of thrones mod, all campaigns from kingdoms and M2:TW.

Try asking in the MOS thread.

Oh, I'm just trying to play 3.2 without it crashing in the middle of the battle. I deleted everything after installing

I did a clean reinstall, deleted M2:TW + Kingdoms. Reinstalled 3.0 parts 1 + 2, then 3.2. Restarted the computer. I got to do a custom battle to the end, thought it was fixed. I made a dwarven campaign and took out one rebel town then on the second one, it started crashing again in the middle of the battles.

I'm able to play the game itself and westeros:tw. Not quite sure why this one crashes in the middle of battle while giving an "unspecified error"

So custom battles work fine, played a few today. Really makes no sense, to me, that the campaign battles crash but the custom ones don't. The campaign map never has any issue..

Did you install TATW patch 3.1 too?
And, does that battle have any reinforcements?

Oh, I had understood that 3.2 was a full install!

And no reinforcements.. so do I need to reinstall TATW (installing 3.1 -> 3.2) or can I get away with just plugging in 3.1 atm

Wish I could edit since writing extra posts kinda sucks.

Before I tried MOS, I just had 3.2 and it worked fine. My friend's install is just 3.0 -> 3.2

You have to unistall it using Control Panel\Uninstall Program, then delete manually Third_Age_3 folder in your ...M2TW\mods folder.
And procced with installing TATW part 1 and part 2, TATW patch 3.1, and TATW patch 3.2.

There is a fix for battle crashes which include reinforcements, it can be found here. That fix is not save game compatible, and you have to apply it after installing TATW 3.2 patch ( that is, you don`t have to apply it at all, just avoid battles with reinforcements. Some users didn`t have problems with this bug at all, but some did).

Thanks ElvenKind. I appreciate your efforts immensely.

3.0 seems to be working, I mucked up the install by doing /mods/mods on part two and /mods on the initial install folder so the patch didn't work.

So, since it seems to be peachy, I think I'll leave it this way unless there are major reservations against 3.0

Well, your CPU limits some of TATW resources, as you saw with MOS.
Wish we could help you more, your other option could be overclocking your CPU, but I don't know do you have that ability on your motherboard.

I doubt it, since I got a laptop

Thanks again though! At least some TATW is better than none =]

    Hi, ok here's my problem:

During campaign AND custom battles, the game might randomly crash (Not every time nor in any obvious pattern).
"Medieval Total War has experienced and unspecified error and will now close" (sound loops for last 5 seconds but game is frozen/non-responsive)

I have MTW 2 & Crusades Kingdom installed. The patch. TATW 3 (both parts), Patch 3.1 AND 3.2. (Non-steam btw)
I have no sub-mods and my computer has more than the required specs to run this game. (NB NB NB, it is NOT an under-performance issue, but a system compatibility one or something..)
Changes to absolute minimum graphics vs best graphics have no differences in game crash consistency.
Side note: This problem also happens in Empire Total War (fully patched & unmodded) I had to give that game up because playing campaigns were impossible as sometimes easily winnable battles were defeats when auto-resolved

I live in South Africa (so daylight savings doesn't apply) but I changed time-zones to Northern Hemisphere and switched the (now applicable) DST off.. still crashing.
People mentioned deleting map files... I'm very hesitant to do that unless someone can explain WHY that'd help. (And I saw some people post that they deleted their files and had no improvements).

PLEASE HELP!!! (And explain as if you're talking to a retard, I'm a gamer, not a tech-expert or programmer :$)

we tell people to delete map files because of a time stamp error or because the map is new and the relevant files need to be regenerated to see any changes don't worry all thse map files regenerate automatically once you start a game

descr_georgraphy_new database file and descr_georgraphy_new text document <- the relevant files

i should also mention that disabling daylights savings time usually makes this deletion of these files unnecessary

    does you battles have reinforcements?
have you patched kingdoms to 1.5?

Knight of Meh, are you saying I should delete "descr_georgraphy_new database file and descr_georgraphy_new text document"?

Oh, and on a side note, when i started my pc this morning, no savegames no previous settings, all have been reset as if I've never played the game before... I was almost 78 turns into a campaign

And battles ALWAYS crashed with reinforcements, but even 1 vs 1 campaign battles (with 3 unit stacks per army) would crash randomly (shrugs despondently)

Oh!* Before disabling UAC the save game folder was hidden (obviously) but after I disabled UAC, it came up (although I only noticed that this morning when I was checking for where the hell my save games have gone, but alas, the folder is empty...

So, in summary: Last night after reading this thread (and countless others) I disabled UAC and deleted map.rwm and played the game for another hour or so but gave up when a battle I should've won easily always crashed unless I auto-resolved it, (where I would lose too many men) so the "deletion" of my save games didn't happen after I changed my settings, only after I switched off my pc and started it again this morning????

    What Windows do you have?
Have you disabled UAC before installing TATW?

Windows 7, and I only disabled UAC AFTER already playing a few battles in TATW when I started noticing the crashes and trying to find a solution.
On a side note, new save games I've made have lasted... perhaps I just have to suck it up, but I don't have a guarantee it's not just going to drop out on me again
