    Default Ptolemaics weren't more specific faction than Seleucids

    I don't know why many peoples think that Ptolemaics are more unique and exotic than Seleucids. It isn't true.

    There are more difference between Seleucids and Macedon than Ptolemaics and Macedon.
    Seleucids were more different units than Ptolemaics.

    Ptolemaics have:
    1. standard units (phalangites, hetairoi etc.);
    2. natives (machimoi phalanx, infantry and light cav. - they have weapons and armors like Hellenistic!, no like Ramzes),
    3. standard elephants (not armourded)
    4. Celtic Mercenaries;
    5. Greek mercenaries;
    6. Jewish mercenaries.

    Seleucids have:
    1. standard units (phalangites, hetairoi etc.);
    2. natives,
    (other looks than Hellenistic, examples: Syrian archers, Persian archers and cavalry, Cappadocian units)
    3. ARMOURED elephants (only they in the game) and standard elephants;
    4. cataphracts (other looks than Parthia, with very nice masks);
    5. scythed chariots (Pontus have them too, but it won't be playable);
    6. Galatians (CELTS);
    7. Greek mercenaries;
    8. Jewish mercenaries.

    BLUE - similar units
    RED - difference

    Examples of EB mod (RTW1):

    Ptolemaics of EB (25 units):

    Seleucids of EB (35 units):
    http://www.europabarbarorum.com/fact...eia_units.html

    You see which roster is more exotic, specific and different?

    Seleucid cataphracts, elephants and scythed chariots are very armoured and detailed units:

    I think that Seleucids and Parthains will be playable as last 2 factions, but hope Seleucids, Ptolemaics and Parthians.

    The Ptolemaics are said to be more unique because they are so in the mind of the consumer. When people think of Ancient times, they think of Rome, Greece, Egypt, Carthage (to an extent) etc.

    Average Total war player is not that stupid. No strategy game with historical factions in it ever had fanbase of ignorant 10 year-olds who think all history is fairy tales. They might think about ancient Egypt if you talk about ancient times but name of the game is Rome II: Total War. Word describing period being Rome. And I don't think average fan of total war series thinks about Bronze Age Egypt when they hear word Rome because they know Ramesses II Egypt was long since gone and culture in Egypt was Hellenistic rather than ancient Egyptian.
    Like all gamers they want more variety, more surprises, more history and Seleucids would give them just that.
    However CA talked about Ptolemaic units in their unique content thread, so I believe Ptolemaic Egypt will be playable faction, instead of Seleucids or Parthia. Shame, really.

    I started playing TW when I was about 12 years old, I had not problems at all with screeching women, incendiary pigs, pharaonic units and I know a couple more that still today couldn't give a if they were in the game again and i doubt that I was the only and last kid around who liked total war games

    Dont overstimate the TW consumer base, TWC is also the center of the history savvy so you wouldn't know from here, but out there, people thinks that carthage had semi-islamic african culture just because it was an north african nation, egypt was still under the rule of a pharaoh and everything to the east of that till india(and that is just because the movie Alexander showed how it 'was' on ancient times) is a big black void on their knowledge with exception of Judea whose only knowledge came from a (maybe) half-assed christian education.
    And if you think, well that only happens to uneducated countries, think better, there are many in countries such as US who couldn't even point where the hell turkey or sweden is...

    Actually before I started caring about history the only ones I really knew were the Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, and Persians. Only because they are the main people talked about in public schools

    Please read the post and see the links.
    Playing Seleucids you will have more variety of units from different cultures.
    It will be better gameplay of battles. More variety.

    Ptolemaics cultures: hellenistic and celtic.
    Seleucids cultures: hellenistic, eastern and celtic.

    Seleucids have 3 armoured units: cataphracts, elephants, chariots which Ptolemaics haven't.

    Ptolemaics will be more similar to Macedon.

    Please read my post, I'm not saying the unit roster for the Ptolemaics is more unique than the Seleucid one. It's not. But to the general consumer, they have no idea what the Seleucids are. They do know that their perception of ancient times is Rome, Greece, Egypt. It just sells better to have Ancient Egypt as one of the factions.

    I agree with Ham the Pharoah. (Just highlighting it by accident. ) It's why something important has been dropped for the Iceni. People outside of TWC think of enemies of Rome, then of Boudica.

    If you were me, I'd be sad.But I wouldn't then be me because you'd be me so you wouldn't be me because I wasn't me because you were me but you couldn't be because I'd be a different me. I'd rather be any kind of bird (apart from a goose) than be you because to be you I'd have to not be me which I couldn't do unless someone else was me but then they would be you aswell so there would still be no me. They would be you because I was you so to restore balance you would have to be me and them meaning all three of us would become one continously the same. That would be very bad.

    Ham the Pharoah, Ok, I undertsand you.

    HinFoo, Yes, but I'm sure that Seleucids will be playable.

    Maybe Seleucids and Ptolemaics will be playable, not Parthia?

    I'm sure for Seleucids but I'm not sure between these 2 ones.

    The Ptolemaics will be playable, other wise we wouldnt be able to play the Battle of Actium in the historical battles section. Plus add in the fact that played a major role in the birth of the Empire and not making them playable would be a waste of time.

    Also ever since the game was announced, Lusted said that Ptolemaics will be properly represented unlike Rome I.

    The fight for last faction is between Seleucids and Parthia.

    Battle of Magnesia, too.
    It was a historical battle in Rome I.

    Only Seleucids have two battles (Raphia and Magnesia) of Hellenistic facitions (Rome I).

    A reason is simple - in game starting Parthians were only a part of Seleucid Empire.
    So playable could be: Seleucids and Ptolamaics or Seleucids and Parthia

    I think Will spoke of a vassal system so who knows how they will represent Parthia this time around.

    At least one of the following will be in the game. Parthia, the Seleucids or the Ptolemaic Empire.

    I hope the vassal system in Rome 2 is more detailed and in-depth than the one in previous games.

    Most people think of Egypt as what we had in Rome I, which was far more varied than the Selucids, who didn't have half the interesting units that you're talking about. However, as Ptolemaic it won't be as interesting.

    You don't know why people think the Ptolomaics were more exotic? First of all it was just Egypt no adjectives, and they had desert Axe Men, and desert cavalry, and numbian spearmen zulu warriors, and 1000's of chariots with silver suited drivers, dude whats more exotic than that?

    But seriously, both powers were fascinating and should be portrayed well.

    Are you talking about the first Rome and the accuracy of the Seleucids and Ptolemaics? Please stop. Compare EB or RTR before you compare the accuracy of vanilla Rome.

    Seleucids have a ginormous empire at the start date, ergo they won't be a playable faction.
