I had this idea that we could do something like the "Historical Quizz thread", but for music.

The rules are as follows: The one who answers the question first can post his own question. It doesn't matter how you pose your question (pictures, riddle,...) as long as it has to do with music.

    Allright, here we go:

    Question 1

Of which 20th century classical piece is this the opening movement?
If this proves too difficult, I'll post hints so stay tuned!
    Good luck!

Rhapsody in Blue! Or I could be wrong.

    Cheers,

P.S. Where'd you get the pic from?

Right in one! Congratulations you're up for the next question.

Copied it directly from my solo part...

    Nah, got it from Wikipedia.

Ok what classical work translates from its original title (from a Western European language) to 'Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun'.

So what is the title (in the original language) and what composer wrote it?

It was written in the 1890's.

Apres midi d'un faun, by Debussy. Beautiful work. I guess 70 hours of classical music on my harddrive helps with these questions.

Alright, tough one. What do Dvorak, Mozart, Haydn, Jimi Hendrix, Stamitz, and Hindemith all have in common (other than the fact that they all wrote music).

I'll give you a hint, look up some of Hindemith's Solo works.

Something about the Organ or the Harpischord?

    Erik

P.S. To your answer, it's slightly wrong, the real answer is 'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune', but I'll give it to you anyways!

Oh fine, Prelude a l' isn't that important anyways.

Not the organ or the Harpsichord, but it is a certain instrument.

Yep. Next time I'll pick an easier one, but it's your shot now. Bet you didn't know Hendrix was a violist...

Indeed, that was what kept me in doubt. I read somewhere about Hindemith playing the Viola D'amore, so I thought "what the hell" and gave that up.
    Good question!

Ok I got one, it's about Jazz.

What's the name of the Jazz musician and composer in my signature (not the one in my avatar)?

It's fairly obvious, but as you can tell, he played the Double Bass. I'll give two clues: He played in the hard bop era (late 50's and the 60's), and he learned Cello as a teenager. I’ll give more if no one gets it.

Well, a simple google search on "Hindemith Solo works" turned up quite a bit about the viola, as he was the most famous composer for the instrument.

Hmm...let's suppose I had the right answer, shall we?

The next question is supposed to be for a "broader" public.

My name was inspired by a hallucinatory substance.
In turn a really old lady was named after me.

I'm looking for the title of a song, obviously...
