    Default Formation Attacks

    Hi Guys I´m new in this great Forum

    been playing Total War for years and looking forward to Rome 2

    my question is about the formations in MTW2....

    If I get them into Formation (no matter what kinds of unit) and let them attack the enemy they dont automaticlly attack different enemy units but only one -.- is there a simple mod to ease this ?

    What? I dont understand, if there are other units around the one unit which is yours they will attack both of them, no matter what is their formation - loose or tight, wedge, schiltron or w/e.

    I assume you mean that if you have several units in a line they will lose formation when you attack and attack the nearest enemy instead? There are two ways around that. 1. tell your units to move to a point behind the enemy - they will attempt to get there and stay in formation if they walk there and don't have to move far. 2. forget it, the only way to be sure that the units hit how you want them to hit the enemy is to individually select targets for each unit. As far as I know there isn't a mod that allows you to form a nice formation out of all your units, attack the enemy with one click, and have the troops stay in that formation while/after charging into combat.

    Actually, you can have multiple units attack in formation.

    If you have multiple units grouped together (i.e., using the "G" hotkey), they will automatically attack the closest enemy target when you command the entire group to target any individual target. This only works if there are enemy units that are sufficiently close.

    So in the below situation:

    A-B-C

    X-Y-Z

    if you group A, B and C together, then select all three units, and then command the entire group to attack Y, then A will auto-target X, B will auto target Y, and C will auto-target Z. So in this situation, your units A, B and C will attack while maintaining in formation with each other.

    But if you don't group them together, but merely select them together and then command them to attack, Y, then A, B, and C will all attack Y. So in this situation, A, B, and C will not maintain formation while attacking.

    Yes, but they have to be at exactly 90 degrees to one another or they will hit at an angle and the wrong unit will be the nearest

    Right. The group auto-target has a few limitations, obviously.

    So if the battlefield looks like this, where everything is perfectly lined up, your battle line will charge in perfect formation under the auto-target:

    Code:
    * * * * * * * * * *
    x x x x x x x x x x

    * = your unit
    x = enemy
    But if the battlefield looks like this, then the group auto-target will make your units act retarded.

    Code:
         * * * * * * * * * * *
                   x   x            x
      xx   x            x
    x               xx x        x

    yeah right aeratus thats what I meant...

    but unfortunantly it works only in 1 out of 10000 time and that is quite sad for it works so well in rome darthmod and the other total war games
