    Issue I: Denying a Flank
    by Spadicus

This issue demonstrates one of the first great innovations in tactical warfare. A flank of an army can be denied to great success against opposition superior in both numbers and ability, but the tactic requires good defensive troops and a prior knowledge of the enemy formation.

My understanding of the battle of Leuctra was that the Thebans were using an unusually deep phalanx formation (sloped, with the left-side 50 men deep). I wonder if that could be modeled by increasing the depth of the Theban hoplite units.

That is one of the shortcomings of the RTW formations is that more complicated unit formations cannot be adopted.

I can just see it now. By the time of MTW2's release, we'll all be schooled in Spadicus military techniques, figuring out how to apply them to Medieval warfare :p
