Complete NEWBIE Looking for HELP!

I am a complete newbie to Rome: Total War. I bought the Total War: ERAS gamepack yesterday. I am looking for the best MODS to enhance the overall look of the game and to make the game an overall better experience. If you could mention what you all feel are the best MODS and their locations that would be a great help. I know that this is probably a frequently asked question and a very subjective topic, but I really do not know where to begin. Any information would be apprecited. Thanks so much for your time!

does eras come with RTW gold edition? If it is you are out of luck, as 90% of mods are not compatible with that last time i checked.

Go for total realism. RTR PE1.6 is out and compatible and 1.7 should be out soon. You will have to change the directory the mod installs to when you download it, but if you go to the Rome Total Realism forum here youll find all you need to help install it.

Feel free to PM me if you have any problems with RTR manooly. I have the Eras pack and use RTR so if you have a problem its probably one Ive already come across and Ill try to help as best I can.
The official site is down but the RTR forum here at twcenter will have all the downloads.

Thanks for the info! A quick question. Does Terrae Expugnandae 5.0/5.1 work with RTW Gold? I believe I have the gold version. It is whatever came with the Total War: ERAS gamepack. When the game screen appears v.1.5 shows up in the upper right hand corner. I really want to try this MOD out, it looks great! I found a screen that states Terrae Expugnandae 5.0/5.1 will only work with v1.5. Please let me know if I am ok run download and run this.

Yes, the version you are refering to is already patched to v1.5. You can install the TE mod directly. Watch for TE Gold to arrive soon. Clicvk the link in my sig. :spammer:

What is TE Gold going to be for? I'm a little confused. You say that I am ok to install directly with what I have now (I currently have RTW Gold installed), but you say TE Gold is coming out soon. Please clarify if possible.

I'm hoping you meant that I am ok to install TE 5.0/5.1 with RTW Gold right now.

TE Gold is a new version, it will be just a patch to the mod. So you can play it now just fine, no bugs.

I noticed after I installed TE 5.0 and then 5.1 that the Prologue is now gone. I haven't really played too much of RTW overall. Should I just dive into TE and figure out things as I go, or, do you recommend reinstalling vanilla RTW and go through the Prologue a couple of times?

Well f you are new to it, then it would be a good idea to do that. But just to save you the trouble i would suggest that you just put advisor help on high while you get used to the game, and just do that with a short campaign so you get used to it.

Almost all the mods will overwrite the original files, so that you cannot play the original version of the game. (The original version of the game is sometimes called "vanilla" - as in just the plain old out-of-the-box condition) If you uninstall a mod, some of them will repla ce the files so that you can play the original one again.

The best mods are probably Europa Barbarorum (EB), Terrae Expugnandae (TE), and Rome: Total Realism (RTR). You would probably like TE the most, as the other two make things harder. Another cool mod is Darthmod, it keeps the core of the game the same as Vanilla Rome, but makes little improvements.

Whereas, in something like TE, all the factions (nations) are redone, new ones are added, new units are added, and the map is completely different.

The prologue would probably be helpful to you, but keeping the advice levels on high would probably be fine. Total War games have a kinda steep learning curve, but they are the best strategy games out there - nothing else comes close.
