Default GPU Upgrade - Help please :(

It would appear that my video card (Nvidia Geforce FX 5200) is in need of an upgrade, due to the fact that Oblivion is consistently giving me single-digit FPS.

What would the best replacement be for under £100? (thats about US$180)

    So far I've found:
    • ATI X1600 Pro
    • ATI X800 RX
    • Geforce 6800 XT

    Which of those is best?

The 1600 Pro I think. But I'm sure that you can get better GPU's for that price.

My advise would be to wait for DirectX 10 and then get a new card. Sit out the bad graphics for a time and wait untill you can get a real good one.

Yeah, that seems good too. If you can manage to wait for M2TW with that rig, that is... :hmmm:

    They all suck.
Extend your bidget by about £30 and buy this, its really far better and for the extra money its well worth it. Unlike the other cards you listed, this wil play modern games at a good resolution.

    The Scottish sense of humour.

You can probably get a second hand Geforce 6800 GT on ebay for your budget. That should give you reasonable preformance. Personally if I were you I would save up £600 and buy/build a whole new rig.

Get the 6800, it will run most modern games on medium to High settings. I think they make a AGP version of the X800 radeon card, if you can, get that. I do, and I run oblivion flawlessly...

Well, I'm assuming you have an old processor too since you own a FX 5200. If that is the case, don't bother buying a DX10 card (or even a high end card). Your CPU will just bottleneck your machine (if nothing else will). If you're gonna upgrade, you should do it properly, ie. buying several components.
