Yeah, with Gardner, who I love, already there, I saw no reason to get Ellsbury. I would have rather gotten a low-mid level guy for left field, or just kept a rotation of what we have instead. It seems they just wanted to make some noise after this last season, and forced the move for Ellsbury and Beltran. Both were overpriced and risky, in my opinion. Soriano proved he has quite a bit left when he came back here, so I'm excited to see what he does. Or he could be another Ichiro (performs well over a half-season with NYY, gets extension, reverts to previous form).

McCann was definitely a good signing, though. We were anemic at catcher last year, starting Chris Steward (!!!) and Austin Romine, a formerly hyped prospect who I was never high on. My only concern would be blocking the couple really good catching prospects they have, Sanchez and the other whose name I don't remember. Then again, our catching prospects never seem to reach expectations since Posada (Romine, Montero, Cervelli etc).

It'll be an interesting season in NY to say the least.

Glad we signed Tanaka but when I saw what the other teams bid for him, there was no reason to offer 35 million more dollars.

Same. He's been the All-Star face of my favorite team since before I was born. At least he'll be going out with no A-Rod to take the attention away.

Jesus. First Rivera and Pettitte, now Jeter?

At least some people can be thankful that they got to see them all player together. It'll be hard watching the Yanks play without Jeter playing short.

I'm hoping Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton debut this year, Sano could make the team right away, it'll at least give me something to watch for when watching the Twins.

Actually it was Bernie several years ago, then Posada. Bernie was also way older than the rest by 4-5 years, but still, it was always more of a Core 5 fro those late 90s dynasties.

Gotta love how Ervin Santana played the Jays and Orioles like a fiddle, then pulls a backroom deal and signs with the Braves.

O's will be a better team without him than they would've been with him.

Ok time for a new thread for 2014 (OK, past time), I'll unsticky this one and add a new 2014. Do you want a prediction poll for who will come second to the Red Sox this year or a "who do you support?" poll? Anyone wants to go ahead and create that, I can sticky it and unsticky this. Alternatively just keep this open and change the title to 2014?

Better yet, just take the year off and make it an MLB discussion thread?

Jesus this thread has no activity.

I cam here to say RIP to the great and far too young Tony Gwynn. What a great ballplayer and even better person.

So I was just reading an article about Glavine and his imminent HOF induction (he had 90+% of the votes) and decided to look up Moose's stats afterward. Seeing as Moose also won double digit Gold Gloves, and also had far better stats than Glavine in several pitching stats, it's a travesty he wasn't elected. While Glavine spent his whole career in the NL East Mussina was in the ridiculously offensively charged AL East.

Mussina had better Win percentage (.638 to .6), ERA+(123 to 118), FIP (3.57 to 3.95), WHIP (1.192 to 1.314), K/9 (7.1 to 5.3) and better season Averages in a ton of other categories. Yes he had less wins (305 to 270), but he averaged more per year (17 to 15), and he also didn't win a Cy Young as Glavine did twice, but Glavine spent his career in a weak offensive division against a DH-less lineup while Mussina went against the best hitting division in MLB for most of his career, and was simply overlooked by the media because he wasn't a member of a 3-headed monster rotation. Of course I'm not saying Glavine isn't a Hall of Famer, but him getting 90+% while Mussina is left out is a bit ridiculous when in a lot of respects he a worse player.

So it's the Cubs and Indians. No matter who wins this World Series, one team will break their curse.

And the Cubs win! I'm not even a Cubs fan but I know that their fans have gone through a lot over the past 108 years. The drought has ended!
