Iran's state TV has broadcast footage allegedly extracted from the advanced CIA spy drone captured in 2011, the latest in a flurry of moves from Iranian authorities meant to underline the nation's purported military and technological advances. Iran has long claimed it managed to reverse-engineer the RQ-170 Sentinel, seized in December 2011 after it entered Iranian airspace from its eastern border with Afghanistan, and that it's capable of launching its own production line for the unmanned aircraft.
After initially saying only that a drone had been lost near the Afghan-Iran border, American officials eventually confirmed the Sentinel had been monitoring Iran's military and nuclear facilities. Washington asked for it back but Iran refused, and instead released photos of Iranian officials studying the aircraft.

The video aired late Wednesday on Iranian television shows an aerial view of an airport and a city, said to be a U.S. drone base and Kandahar, Afghanistan. The TV also showed images purported to be the Sentinel landing at a base in eastern Iran, but it was unclear if that footage meant to depict the moment of the drone's seizure.
It wasn't possible to immediately identify the air strip where the aircraft is seen landing, or what type of aircraft it was that captured the video. At least one other aircraft, resembling the commonly used U.S. Predator drone, can be seen near what appears to be a temporary hangar in the background as the camera pans across the air base.
In addition, the TV also showed images of an Iranian helicopter transporting the drone, as well as its disassembled parts being carried on a trailer.
In another part of the video, the chief of the Revolutionary Guard's airspace division, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said that only after capturing the drone, Iran realized it "belongs to the CIA."
"We were able to definitively access the data of the drone, once we brought it down," said Hajizadeh.
He described the Sentinel's capture as a huge scoop for Iran, saying that at the time, Tehran did not rule out a possible punitive U.S. air strike over the drone.

Iran captured the US special stealth drone about a year ago and now have released onboard footage that the drone had recorded. I would suspect this video footage would be encrypted so an enemy could not glean intelligence from the drone. Or it wouldnt store any information, but stream it through an uplink. But it seems Iranian scientists have managed to crack it open.


It adds further evidence that the Iranians actually spoofed this drone as reported in Wired and Time magazine and captured it intact.

Aviation experts believe it is footage from the Sentinel's FLIR turret cam. I dont knowwhat that is or if the footage would be stored on board. It certainly would be encrypted however which means they have at least got past that stage of encryption.

The military aviation experts who laughed at the Iranian stealth fighter video are concerned that video is genuine over at the aviationist.com. I havent found any articles yet by a commentator who is well versed in the issue.

The drones don't save data on board as far as i know... they transmit it. Which makes me firmly believe they are lying. At least thats how the MQ-1 and MQ-9 work.

I cracked up when I saw the title. I'm living in Kyrgyzstan at the moment, so I can speak Kyrgyz fairly well. Although a Turkic language, it shares many traditionally religious words with Arabic and Farsi. When I saw "Ameriki-e-shaitan" it made my day. I often growl that word to scare and surprise the little Muslim kids who live in my neighborhood, who think it is very funny.

Just because I thought it may be interesting to you all: there were several times during my deployment that a patrol accidentally strayed into Iran. Several miles in at times. And some of the older Marines said the same thing used to happen with Syria while on patrol in Iraq during the push to shut down the western border in 2006 or whenever it was all the time. Don't tell anyone.

I don't believe that the Iranians 'hacked' the drone and forced it to land like they say. An engineer states they spoofed the GPS and took it over but the design expressly does not use GPS for primary guidance specifically because spoofing is so easy and that the drone uses an inertial navigation system instead, just like the Reaper, Predator and Tomahawk cruise missile. So it's more likely that the drone malfunctioned and went down and the Iranians captured it after it did. Also I have my doubts about the so-called 'decoded' footage since as I recall drones do not store their footage onboard, but actually stream it back somewhere. So either the video is fake, or they nabbed the video that was being transmitted-- which isn't a big deal anyway since in most cases the US uses pretty lackluster encryption, or none at all, on its drones.

I think you'd agree that Jesus's return is generally held to be good for everyone.

Considering Iran's horrendously transparent crap about their latest fighter having stealth capabilities (or even having flight capabilities), I'm extremely dubious about these claims.

I'd like to point out that Iran's capabilities have been grossly over-estimated for the best part of 4 decades now, often by Israel, and probably because it's in their interests to do so.
