    Default Speculation:Total War- The Expansion.

Whiling away my time at work I got to thinking what the next expansion will be. It's a little early
for this kind of speculation but it lets us use our imaginations in this world of T.V and film. Please don't get too het up on my historical knowledge, no 'WTF!?! the renaissance started in 12th century Florence you NooB! etc etc'. It's just speculation. Please feel free to list your own or agree/disagree with mine.

    Renaissance:Total War

-Though the Renaissance is covered somewhat by MTW2, a 1500's onwards expansion is possible. Covering the period 1500-1660, Renaissance Total War allows the Player to experiance the 'Age of enlightenment' via cannons and machines of mass destruction!

    Pros-

-Could allow some cool units e.g. War Wagons (though again they are in MTW2 period)
    Ribauldequins, Rietters, Carracks,etc

-Allows the beauty of the renaissance to become charmingly juxtoposed with early medieval
    period.

    Cons-

-Lots of flashy-pants 'three-musketeer' types blathering on about comradeship etc.

-Lots of gunpowder may play merry hell with lower-end machines.

-A little Euro-centric, perhaps? No Byzantium either.

    English Civil War:Total War

-Covering the period 1642-1651, English Civil War:Total War takes the player to the
simmering period of religious and political tensions between Parliament and Monarch.
Smash your enemies in siege and counter-siege and field battle!

    Pros-

-If MTW 'goes modern' there are worse places to start.

    -You get to kill aristocrats.

    Cons-

-*sigh* another england-based expansion? what is this, the bleedin' history of Britain
    with Simon schama?!?

-Two factions in england. England is small. May be a short game.

    Viking Invasion: Total war

-Covering the periods 732AD to 1066AD, Viking Invasion:Total War allows you to pillage
and plunder England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern France under the Viking standard.
Smash your opponents with Axe, spear and broadsword or defend your lands as the saxons,
picts, Mercians, Scots, Irish or Welsh.

    Pros-

-The ground-work is there, and who doesn't like Vikings?

-Allows you to live your pillage fantasies.

    Cons-

    -The same expansion? Deja vu?

-A handful of countries (I added N.France for flavour). Didn't the Vikings travel a little
    further afield?

    Napoleonic: Total War

-Covering the periods 1799-1815, the player must choose between conquering Europe as the new Emperor of France or as one of the defiant nations not willing to become the next province in the French Empire. Play as England, Prussia, Austria, Spain, Italy, Turks etc or as the Empereur des Français himself!

    Pros-

    -Will please alot of people

-Truly epic battles with lots of fireworks

    Cons-

-Is the engine ready for optimized napoloeonic battles? (No flames from Modders please!)

-skipping three-hundred years may seem ignorant of other periods.

    -The next TW game, mayhaps?

    Any thoughts?

Renaissance total war could be great, wouldnt have to be eurocentric either, it would certainly have Tartars or Golden Horde or whoever was there in this time, it would have the Ottomans off course.
How many played the Game "Cossacks"? It's campaigns were very interesting not because off storyline or something but because you learned alot a bout the time period, especially in eastern Europe. I think it had a Russian and an Ukrainian Campaign, and in the Expansion a Polish (Polish Lithuanian) Campaign.

CA said in their eras mega pack (i think) that they dont like the idea of gun battles and all that, they prefer swords etc.... (and coincidently, the engine probly does too)

Im happy with any expac realy, as long as it adds enough new stuff to warrant the £20 pricetag.

EDIT: what id realy like to see for an expansion though is this:

We all know that at the end of the game (1500 whenever) we get no more new units or buildings etc....

id like to see an expansion add new units and stuff and mabe another 250 years onto the end on the game... that way the original game becomes longer and more varied.

(though doing it with MTW2 would contradict their previous statement about not wanting to do a massed gun battle game)

    Maybe the next TW game.

    Viking Invasion2?

I'd say there is no point going further into the age of gunpowder until they develop an engine for battles at sea, otherwise they lose half the "fun" of the period.

Also, the further forward you go the mroe uniform the armies start to become which ruins a lot of the replay value.

I think they will go with the easy option of the dark ages.

i think that if they did remake viking invasion to have more of a map that would be awesome.....i mean the vikings did make it to italy and byzantium...not just england in the original

No to rome and mtw3, china isn't a well-known enough period (ie it doesn't have the appeal of knights or samurai). If napoleon is out I think revisiting shogun is a strong candidate, especially now the combat is well animated.

I would love to see Shogun on the new improved engine, but even more I'd love to see something completely new in the series. China would be an interesting place to go next, or better yet whole Asia. Not sure about the the time period though, as I'm not very familiar of the historical happenings in Asia.

    Americas Invasion: Total War

Besides being called AI (hint hint), this expansion would begin in the year 1492, the end of MTW2. It would include the historical European explorers of the Americas (England, France, Spain, Portugal, Dutch, Russian), along with the largest native cultures, as the major factions, and the smaller native tribes as minor factions (some playable, eg Apache, Lakota, Cherokee).

The map would be for all of North and South America, and the Carribean. Squalor and unhappiness would be major considerations for the Europeans as their first colonies struggle to survive. "Plaque" would have much more of an impact on cities, especially on the natives.

The game would have quarterly turns (spring, summer, fall, winter), and continue until just before the American Revolution.

Less expansions, more in the full game. Companies anymore build games with room for expansions. . . *sigh*

Why not an American conquest/colonies war expansion ?

Having thought about it I would go with Renaissance:Total War. Why?

-The valois-hapsburg conflict and the ottoman expansion would be good frame-work for the campaign game.

-Lots of excellent battles not entirely dominated by firearms e.g Alquandavir(spl?), Pavia, Ravenna, Buda, siege of Rhodes(1480 but hey...) siege of Malta...

-The frilly clothes and stupid hats make a nice throw-back to medieval pageantry.

Personally I'm gald C.A are staying away from gun-heavy settings as guns are so impersonal...

Viking Invasion clearly for me, a Renaissance or later eras they can save to next game.

well since most of the total war expansions had an invasion of some sort i dont expect this expansion to be any different and i agree with appius that the name might be viking invasion still..

The New World, hopefully. Man, vikings are fun but do we need them twice? Such lack of inspiration and originality. Sorry, a remake is unoriginal enough, let alone a remake of an expansion for that remake...

They should end it with Shogun 2 and then go on to their fantasy game.

I'm imagining Samurais chopping eachother up in the MTW2 engine... drool

As for an expansion, I'd have to go with the New World. Could start with the Spanish Conquest and stop just before the American Revolution. Personally I would love playing some Native American factions, nice change of pace.
