    Default Holy Roman Empire; custom battle crash.

    So I wanted to play a custom battle with the Holy Roman Empire, and got a crash near the loading screen. After using the exclusion method, I came to the conclusion that this crash happened whenever I chose Dismounted Men At Arms with upgraded armour in my army.

    I think that the problem also occurs with other units after upgrading their armour, so maybe some of them are missing upgrade models? I've yet to test this out thoroughly though. Haven't tested the HRE in campaign yet, but I thought this could be a problem whenever I want to field Dismounted MAA in a settlement with upgraded smiths.

    I don't know about other units but I also encounterd the same problem and -lucky you- I solved it just today.

    This is what you have to do:

    Go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\unit_models and open the battle_models file with note pad.

    Then find the lines of the attachments for the dismounted_italian_maa_ug1 model (for "copper" and "silver" shields).

    Make that part of the file like this:

    Just confirmed that mounted Italian MAA have identical problem.
    The fix is very slightly different since the mounted version is also available to rebels.
    Again open the battle_models file and find the part for the attachments of the italian_maa_ug1 model.

    Change the document like this:

    Thank you very much paleologos, this worked perfectly! I've applied both fixed and I'm not receiving any crashes when using these units anymore. Have some rep.

    I'll take a further look at different units and report whenever I get trouble. I vaguely remember using a certain gunpowder unit for a certain faction, and got a crash as well. But the problem is, I don't know which gunpowder unit it was anymore. It was quite some time ago, and I didn't thought about reporting it.

    I just came across another unit which caused the game to crash: Dismounted Hospitaller Knights with full (gold) armour upgrades, for all factions.

    I 've recently had a chance to go through this and can confirm a crash causing mis-edited part of the battle_models file.
    Find the line 34 dismounted_knights_hospitaller_ug2 .
    Below the three lines for models make it like this:

    My fix still works anyway, but it just shows we would both benefit from more research.
