January 10 2005 is where this saga starts.
This was a good game at start as I was deeply into it playing who knows how many hours a day after school and work. I had a tendency to print out maps of Europe and copy the provincial borders on it and plot my conquests. First beating the game as the Romans and then playing a tough game as the Seleucids. This started my interest in the Seleukid Kingdom and the near, middle east, and the Levant.
While searching through historical texts on the internet I stumbled on totalwar.com. Signed up as Seleucos II and posted 2 or 3 times before I found a better site called heavengames. I posted there maybe 10-12 times before I found out about twcenter.net. Twcenter had a lot more to offer than the other two as I looked through all the mod sections the site had to offer. I immediately signed up as Seleucos I Nicator and began by downloading Rome Total Realism 5.0. I began posting like I was on steroids and jumped rapidly from 100 to 200 and so on with posts. Posting in other areas like Rome general discussion and other areas. Once in a long while I would poke my head into the Off Topic section and Political mudpit.
You have to understand that I didn’t really have a massive knowledge on modding or history at this point. All I knew about extensively was the Byzantine Empire. I had only been dabbing into mapping and have only learned how to makenew provinces and move armies. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15464 was my first thread ever and it has terrible inaccuracies written all over it. But if you take note at the third post its Meneldil. He approached me about his new mod that he wanted to create called Successors: Total War. I would be the first recruited to that mod as a historian. I wanted to be a mapper but Meneldil was a mapper to begin with. But I agreed and then I began delving into history like none other. After this my threads toward RTR improved dramatically and I started pumping out these http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15503, and http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15793, which had a dramatic effect on the mod. These changes were implemented.
This brought my interest up and the next day I applied to become a mapper in the Rome Total Realism team. I was instantly accepted even though I lied through my teeth about how much experience and knowledge into modding I had, although I was learning more and more every day. This brought me to know Tyr, Deimos, We51ey2, Stuie, Boius, Pirateiam, the supposed greats of RTR. Over the next year would be the ride of a lifetime. Starting with RTR 5.2.
At this point I had to wait on Deimos for my job which started simple enough. I had to fix the inaccuracies in the map with Stuie.A coordinated effort. We were given a week to do it. We got it done in 2 days. We were on a role. Then came out RTR 5.3 and the planning stages of the great 6.0 which took more than 6 months of my time to come.
Deimos disappeared and Tyr was so impressed with my work that I was given full discretion over the RTR 6.0 map. Whatever I wanted to implement I was given ability to. My first idea was the Greek colony idea in the Black Sea and other places around the Mediterranean. One of my personal policies was to keep the fans in touch with what I was doing and hear the opinions of them, this was also a part of my personal competition with Simetrical on the TWC boards because I was the one who wanted the RTR PR position but he was the one who managed to get the position. They liked most of my ideas but later I found that the Greek colony idea would not work because the Greeks would use them to literally conquer the world. I had to make these rebel provinces as a compromise.
Then comes the interesting part. After the well known and notoriously massive RTR 5.2 countdown thread. 3000 posts in 3 days. I was approached by the well known Triumvirate GodEmperor Nicholas about a chance to become civitate. But the trick was that he was unable to take me in himself. He had too many clients to begin with. So he told me I had to find a sponsor. I knew that nowonmai (Tyr, leader of RTR) was a civitate long enough to sponsor me so he agreed thinking it wise to have more people in his team involved with TWC. So with 700 posts and a unanimous staff vote I became civitate on March 27th 2005 and this made the future here for me very interesting.
More to come.
I want reviews of this so I can have the drive to continue my story. Remember, I am trying to be as accurate as possible using my memory and past threads and posts of not only me but other members of the team and board.
And before a mod says this is in the wrong place...I know. I put it here because not nearly all who can relate to this is a civitate. So this is more than an appropriate place for this.
