    Default miracle healings

I found an interesting website and would like to hear a Christian response to it.

Believers say that God can perform miracle healings and testimonies of 'healed' people are quite common. The thing is, there is always a slim chance that the person will get better anyway in these 'miracle healings', God never heals anyone that has no chance of getting better. So if God does heal people, why not heal amputees that people pray for?

I'm not going to write anymore because it's all written down in the site I linked to. I await the Christian responses.

    Apart from Jesus.

There's no evidence Jesus rose from the dead other than in the bible anyway. I'm talking about modern day 'miracle healings'.

God made the point that god only heals afflictions that could possibly heal themselves, which makes the claim that god did it doubtful. He has never cured death, so his point still stands.

    @god
I think thats becusae you started the thread with a anti-miracle sentiment that most chirstians tend to shy away from...

If he were to grow back people's limbs, it would remove all doubt of his existence and thus remove our free willed decision.

    [Fundie helmet off]

    Damn, that smarts.

It's too bad that millions knew without doubt that God existed in the old testament, and still disobeyed him because of free will.

What are you talking about? You didn't even post in this thread.

I posted an excuse I heard once for miracles never including regrown limbs, and then showed why it was wrong.

I'm saddened and dissapointed by the lack of religious responses to this.

Is anyone going to post an argument that isn't just spam? Otherwise I'll just have to assume that you don't have even have an argument against this...

I did here about a blind girl being healed one time. Very powerful case but I haven't varified its authenticity. I believe that God may use people as outlets for his power, but the problem with faith healers is that there have been alot of scams in the past. It is hard to rude out the fake ones from the genuine ones, if there are genuine ones at all.

As David Hume states in his Enquiry of Human Understanding we must never report that a miracle had taken place unless it was a greater miracle that the witness or witnesses were lying or mistaken. In every case I have ever heard the lesser miracle has been opaque, sometimes the scenarios proposed even have reasonable explanations. The human tendency to attribute divine influence to what is merely a beneficial but ultimately mundane outcome is powerful.

Now, I'm not saying there cannot be miracles - technically a miracle can occur. What I'm saying is that rationally I can never accept a miracle without objective proof. If something transgresses regularity it is inherently extraordinary, and as such requires equally extraordinary substantiation.

All of this aside theists also disregard the limited conclusion of miracles - just because something irregular occurs an omnipotent deity is masterminding it. Unless the miracle involves direct proof of God it must be regarded merely as a possible but inprobable (unless the frequency ups for some reason) event.

"Truth springs from argument amongst friends." - Hume.
