    Default Trouble installing RS 2.5

I am also having trouble. I am trying to use the Alexander.exe , and it just isn't working. I have a non steam Rome Total War and a Steam version as well (I lost the CD key so got it on sale to play online). Anyway, the only version of Alexander is on steam. First I tried installing Roma Surrectum II on the Alexander version on steam. That didn't work. After clearing everything up, I tried to install it on my regular non steam Rome Total War. I copied over the Alex.exe before installing Roma Surrectum II. It installed fine and I got to the launcher, but when I turned steam to "no" it said failed to find steam. When I turned it to yes, it still wouldnt work.

    Any ideas?

Where did you install R:TW to?

What have you done with UAC?

Have you changed your folder options to 'show hidden files and folders' and looked in the 'virtual store'?

Well my Rome Total War is installed in Program Filesx86/steam/steamapps/common/rome total war alexander

I installed RS2 to a folder on my desktop, then copied and pasted it into Alexander.

I'll check my UAC settings, but I made sure I set the launcher to always run as administrator. I got a little more into it, and managed to get around some of the problems. However, now when I launch it I get this:

    Also, what's the "virtual store"?

'Virtual Store' or 'AppData' is where Windows puts files that can be modified that were usually in the program files folders as Windws sees those folders as 'protected'.

The folder 'AppData' is a hidden folder so in order to see it you need to go into your folder options and change the settings (the option is ''show hidden files, folders and drives'.

The path to the folder will be something like 'c:\users\"your account"\AppData.....". Yu can find the start of this path by runing %appdata%.

I use Steam but not for R:TW. Also on this PC I installed Steam away from the program fies folders - some games installed through Steam (E:TW, N:TW and S2:TW) will still use the Virtual Store though.

Is there any way I can use my steam version of Alexander without Steam then?

Anyway, do you know how I can fix the problem in the picture?

I was told that it's not possible to mix and match the places where the games are sourced from - that is all on Steam/Direct Download or all on disc. I don't know if that is true or not.

I don't use Steam for R:TW as I have R:TW Gol Edition and R:TW Alexander on DVD-ROM. I know very little about a Steam install.

Someone who does use Steam should be able to help you when they see this topic (eventually).
