Then do so. I cannot trust in the safety of a message sent by one I do not know.

Carlisle had pen and ink brought in.

Explain to the Archbishop that due to unfortunate events here and at the border, I do not feel able to vacate my post. However, I am willing to offer the safety and hospitality of Carlisle to the Archbishop if he can see his way clear to meet with me here.

After a moment's thought, the baron added:

State that the message is from myself, though add that it was written by yourself... Sir Roger de Dalston...

ooc: Or just Sir Roger Dalston, whichever you prefer.

Roger was about to begin writing but he paused,
    Dalston, sire?

A village, not far south of here.

It was where the baron put any new captives to work.

It can be restful there, though I want you by my side for now.

Henry Shieldworth arrived once again to Carlisle Castle. However this time with a letter.

"I have informed The Archbishop of your decision. I now have a letter for you with his request."

    The letter read:

It is with great regret that I must decline your offer, though I have no doubt the safety of your residence the journey north is unsafe and unpredictable hence why I must stay in Canterbury for the time being. I would have like to ask you in person but our hands our tied. Lord Carlisle I ask that you bring your army south if not to support Lord Richards claim to the throne than to apprehend a heretic of the church. His crimes are many, only recently he has attempted to spread heresy with his message about myself and his self declaration of repentance and speaking in the name of God. He must be arrested to face trial for his crimes, and may God protect you and aid you in the capture of this heretic

In the time that had passed between Henry's visits, the Wardens had arrived and the extent of the Scot's trickery had been realised.

Having had the letter read out to him, Carlisle gave a grudging nod.

I can comply to the Archbishop's wishes in some small way.

Henry was confused with his reply.

"Small way? How small? We need this heretic!"

Henry's outburst came quite suddenly and he felt a bit embarrased by it afterwards.

"I am sorry, my several journeys have been long."

Henry was still red when he spoke again.

"I.. I still need an answer."

    Carlisle grunted.

I will not bring the Wardens south, they are to re-establish their posts along the border and we cannot afford to displace a single one. However, I myself will go to apprehend this heretic, and perhaps one of my Knights will accompany me.

    Henry was shocked.

"Just... 2 people.... Fine, I suppose we should travel soon, the Archbishop is waiting."

Carlisle breathed deeply, readying himself for what he was about to say.

I ask for three more of your days. I wish to be married before I go south.

    Henry was once again confused.

"Married?! Oh... Of course... I shall stay till you are ready"

And so Richard de Lacquartier married Eulalie de Taillebois the next day during a modest ceremony attended by the closest members of Carlisle's retinue. Eventually, after seeing to his nuptials and the returning of the Wardens to the border, Carlisle returned alone to the rooms that Henry had been given in the city. He was armed and dressed for riding, if anyone else was to join then they would surely arrive soon.

Henry was already geared up and had the horses waiting for Carlisle.

"Is that everything? Sure you're ready to ride? Whats your squire called... Roger? Is he coming too?"

Sir Roger of Dalston, no, he's currently with the Wardens.

Carlisle attached his saddlebags to his horse before mounting.

Take me to this heretic of the Archbishop's.

So Carlisle and Henry began their long journey to the south again, finally in search of this heretic.

ooc: Where should we post now?

Riding hard, the two passed through the Lakelands and entered Kirkbie Kendal at sundown.

After a long journey, Johann Pierce walked down the trail to Carlisle Castle. As the time was late, he bedded in the local inn. Intending to talk to Baron Richard de Lacquartier in the morning.
