Can't Launch S2

I bought S2 and FOS when they came out respectively. I bought the DVD because I didn't want to have to spend all the time downloading gigs of data.
I decided to re-install them on my reformated computer, and it wouldn't let me install from the disk, so I had to download the whole 13gb, exactly what I never wanted to do, thanks Steam.

Anyways, after I wasted over 12 hours waiting for that, now when I click to play, I hear the music, the screen is my desktop, I can see the icon in the taskbar, but I cannot open it. Trying to run it using benchmark Directx 9, opens a cmd window, and then the same problem as above.

Can anyone help?
