I play as Isengard on VH/VH. Its turn 176 and i have Saruman as my only general. He is about 90 years old now and might be dead soon. How can i get new generals? At the beginning of campaign they were appointed by my other generals. However i lost them in battles.(window pops out saying something like "this man showed valor in battle and you can appoint him as general") Only Old guy left. What can i do to get new generals? Whats going to happen when the old guy dies and no one is left to take over?

    Welcome to the forum, @Risenpl!

I have never before heard that someone has lost every general except the faction leader. You should be able to adopt new generals through Saruman. Remember, if your faction leader dies and there's no heir, you'll lose the game. But don't worry, you'd be very unlucky if Saruman would die before the age of 120.

It looks like, in my game Saruman has not appointed any generals as i remember. Maybe it is some bug . I have won major battles without general on the field, so it is strange. I have not moved him from the city at all, maybe he has to be out , near the unit fighting a battle? It sucks, if i get "game over" because there is no heir. I have played this campaign long time ...

Win heroic victories with captains, you should eventually get "man of the hour" event and be able to get a new general.

I've never had Saruman die of old age in my campaigns, and in my longest campaign, he surived well into turn 300 Just find some easy battles like a rebel army and get a heroic victory with your smaller yet superior units. As Curufin said before, the man of the hour events are quite common.

Adressing Saruman not appointing anyone, you may have a bug or something. Depending on how long you've been left with one general, he should have picked an heir

I'm not really sure, but some say that if you win a battle with a cavalry unit in it, you will have a bigger chance of getting a "Man of the Hour" event?!

The engine calculates how many adoptions you should have at a given point by how many cities/castles you own and how many generals you have. Cities/Castles > Generals = Adoption event...

Well, I have played more turns. I have had couple heroic victories. However no new generals. Saruman is 112 years old. It looks like he does not adopt new generals. It might be a game breaking bug. Now, my only idea is to bribe some unloyal folks , and then i will have an heir when old fart dies.

How many settlements do you have? This is directly correlated to how many generals the game thinks you should have. Also, did you try fighting battles as Curufin already said?

You must be using Saruman in your battles, just send an army with no general and you will get man of the hour if you win a clear victory, dosent even need to be heroic

I have 9 provinces now. I have had plenty of heroic , clear victories. I dont use Saruman in battles. I had man of the hour events before, when other generals where alive.

MotH only adopts generals to the family, it doesn't recruit them in to the army. So Saruman must adopt orcs as his children.

The last sentence put a funny image in my head, of Saruman packing lunches for all his adopted children.

    I can't stop laughing.

I'm wondering if there is a limit to how many new Generals can be adopted by any one General even if there is no family tree?

What I'm suggesting is, if Saruman has already previously adopted 4 Generals into the army through 'Man of the Hour' events during your campaign, then that means you will not receive any more and sadly you may be out of luck.

Could always try blitzing through to your Victory Conditions. Would be kind of cool as you will not know how much life the old bugger has left in him.

The Teutonic tree works as a normal tree. beside there's no children born, so that's a most unlucky possibility
