Campaign and battle freeze, and battle lag spikes

OK, i'm sorry my first post had to be one asking for help, but it is
So, when ever i play the campaign it will randomly freeze, and as far as i can tell, for no reason
i also sometimes get this with battles, but its mainly just getting like a few minute long insanely bad lag spikes.
this happens on Vanilla M2TW and all the kingdoms expansions
Please help me,
im running windows vista (SP2)
on a Nvidia geforce 9600
AMD Phenom 9550 quad core 2.2ghz
and 3gb of ram

Original DVD? DVD Gold Edition? Steam? Other?

Have the third age installed, but it was happening before that
Well, im playing the campaign map and it randomly freezes
same with battle

Time for you to post your dxdiag.
Most of it sounds like you're running out of memory.
Also, what other programs are you at the same time?
Do you have any auto-updaters and virus scans going in the background at that time?

Ok, i have steam, origin AVG and maybe a browser running in background
I dont have virus scans scanning

Your graphics card is the bottom of the 9000 series and it is your bottleneck and why your battles and lag are that bad.

On a side note AVG hates Steam and Medieval2.

Really? are you sure? i've been playing the shogun two demo and i get virtually no lag,
also, does this mean that NTW is going to be even worse when it arrives?

A lot of it is the way the game is programmed for graphics and graphics card/chip usage.
Medieval2 in cases has been harder ob graphics than Shogun2 because it was not programmed to use things like shared graphics memory or to lower your graphics settings on you. The difference for these little features is about five years.
I will stand by what I said for Medieval2.
The way the specs on Shogun2 since the Demo was released is different story and a different sub-forum.

^bad, baaad advice... Geforce 9600 should be able to run M2TW maxed at 1080p with little problem... remember it's Geforce 9600 not Radeon 9600; Geforce 9600 came from post DX10 era while Radeon 9600 was from early DX9 era... and I once played M2TW with Radeon X1900XTX which was slower than Geforce 9600 and had no problem with it.

the guy is more CPU and RAM limited... especially the RAM.

edit, hell yeah, he is definitely RAM limited, he's using the already memory bloated windows Vista...!

@Napoleonic, the dxdiag says GeForce 9200, not 9600 as posted in the OP.
9200 will play but not good as he found out.
9600 will play very well as many did and some still use.
He has enough ram for this game. Empire and newer, he'd be hurting.

well, i'm in the progress of acquiring more ram, as for a new graphics card, anything you can reccomend for a low budge(£100 or less( lower=better))

Last week, www.newegg.com had a GeForce 8400 for $32USD.

My 6770 I got just before New Years was $128USD shipped from them but I have a four-year-old $110USD power supply to run it.

If you can find a 9800TG or GTS250 with at least 512mb of vram, you will be in great shape for Shogun2 even though both are 5-6 years old.
